Relocate Your Life
Watch the sun rise on your new future.
It's time to make the move. Maybe you have a newfound ability to work from home and you want more space for you or your family. Perhaps you want a greater connection to nature and a quieter lifestyle as you age. You may have spent memorable summers in the Kawartha Lakes. Or you could be new to Canada and researching an affordable area with access to urban amenities.
The decision to relocate is THAT kind of life choice; one that will shape your future. We know it’s overwhelming to pick
up and move. But it’s also the beginning of a new adventure. Here at the City of Kawartha Lakes we aim to provide you with resources and support to ensure this decision will be one of the best you ever make.
With a home secured, the muskoka chairs ordered, and Kawartha Dairy ice cream in the freezer, it’s time to think about work. While some new residents have portable, work-from-home jobs, others will need to secure employment. We recommend starting with the local Workforce Development Board to get a better sense of regional labour market information. You can then access the Fleming Employment Hub to search for opportunities in your field. If you are a youth looking for your first job or an adult wanting direct support, you can connect with an employment counsellor at VCCS Employment Services. They have helped thousands of local residents with resumes, job search strategies, and employment connections.
Whether you need step-by-step support, require access to the inner world of local employment opportunities, want information on exploring entrepreneurial possibilities from the Kawartha Lakes Small Business and Entrepreneurship Centre, or choose to connect to a private local employment agency, you won’t be alone in your Kawartha Lakes employment journey.
After work you need to unwind. If you’ve been daydreaming about taking the kids to experience the maple sugaring season or thinking about how to get your bike onto one of the many cycling trails, you will be coming to the right place! Our region is renowned for its pristine lakes, fresh air, local beaches, and hundreds of kilometres of trails. There are activities for people of all ages, all skill levels, and all interests. As a prospective resident interested in nature, you may also want to keep informed regarding stewardship of this beautiful area of the province. Ontario Parks manages and protects the provincial parkland while Kawartha Conservation not only highlights a variety of areas to visit, but provides all the resources you might require as a land owner and/or supporter of our natural areas.
But it’s not just about the activities specific to our unique landscape. You are probably also considering the regional amenities and programming. We are very responsive – you won’t need to wait on hold for the length of a Netflix special just to find out garbage pick-up details for your road, register your child for swim class, or book a community hall for a family get-together. You can keep abreast of local programs with the Kawartha Lakes events calendar and we recommend you take advantage of the services of your local chambers of commerce. These chambers are a way to connect you to local businesses and access additional services and training.
With small town living comes cute rural main streets just waiting to be explored. The charming downtowns that make up the communities of Kawartha Lakes offer delicious restaurants for a date, local breweries to meet friends, and creative crafts to decorate your new living space. A summer swim and stroll is the perfect way to introduce your family and friends to your new piece of paradise.
While some people crave the isolated beauty of rural living, no one wants to feel alone. We have a growing contingent of newcomers and people from all walks of life settling in our beautiful region. Our commitment to diversity recognizes the ongoing work we do to ensure our communities are inclusive places.
We are here to help you adjust as you jump into your new lifestyle. Relocating your life is a big decision but after sitting on your porch listening to the loons under a clear starry sky, we know you will be happy with your choice.
