911 and municipal addressing
A municipal address, or 911 number, is assigned to a property to aid in emergency response and for ease of way-finding. The number is assigned to the property based on the location of the entrance on that property and a measurement to an intersecting road.
The municipal address number is assigned by the municipality at one of the following stages: the time of creation of a lot in a plan of subdivision, the time of a building permit application for construction on a vacant property or at the request of a property owner on vacant land.
An application form must be filled out if you are requesting a new 911 municipal address sign installation on a vacant rural property not associated with a building permit or would like to replace a damaged or stolen existing sign.
