Please follow these steps when you arrive at any City landfill site:
- Immediately report to the scale house where an attendant will be happy to help you;
- Follow attendant instructions;
- Follow all signs and directions;
- If you don't know where a certain material goes, ask a landfill attendant for help;
- After you drop off your material, return to the scale house to get your receipt.
There is zero tolerance for:
- Illegal dumping
- Abuse - verbal or physical
- Scavenging
- Non-payment
Please wear:
- Proper foot wear (certified safety foot wear is best)
- Pants and a shirt (bulky clothing may become hooked on items)
- Gloves
For your safety:
- Children and pets must remain in the vehicle;
- Always be aware of your surroundings;
- Always watch where you are and how close to the curb you get;
- Always be aware of where the landfill equipment is at all times. Never get close to the machines;
- Do not stand on tailgates.
- Any user entering the landfill site does so at their own risk. The City makes every effort to ensure landfill sites are safe. The City, including its contractors, agents and employees, shall not be liable for any injury to persons or damage to vehicles or property caused by the use of the landfill site.
Untarped loads
Residents and commercial haulers must properly tarp all loads brought to City landfill sites. Untarped loads are illegal and a significant source of roadside litter.

Tipping Fees |
There will be incremental increases to fees. In order for loose waste to be considered a standard load it must not contain more than 10% recyclables. If loose waste contains more than 10% recyclables and/or opaque garbage bags, a mixed load rate will apply. City landfills accept debit, Visa and Mastercard. Landfill locations and hours of operation |
All landfills are closed on New Year's Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Canada Day. Landfill sites scheduled to operate on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve will only be open from 8am to 12pm. Winter hours are from October 16 to April 30, summer hours are from May 1 to October 15. All landfill hours are subject to change. There are five landfill sites located in Kawartha Lakes:

Load inspections |
All residents and commercial users of City landfill sites must separate recyclable items from waste. Any waste loads that contain more than 10% recyclable materials will be subject to additional fees as part of the Collection and Management of Waste and Recyclables By-Law 2016-144. Recyclable items that should be separate include:
- blue box recyclables (plastic, glass, aluminum cans, etc.)
- green box recyclables (paper, cardboard, boxboard, etc.)
- household hazardous waste (oil, paint, cleaners, etc.)
- electronic items (computers, stereos, power tools, etc.)
- tires (cannot be accepted at City landfills)
- scrap metal items (including appliances that do not contain Freon)
- leaf and yard waste
- mattresses

Household Hazardous Waste |
You should never put household hazardous waste into your garbage or recycling. For the safety and health of our community, wildlife and environment it must be disposed of at household hazardous waste depots. There is no charge for this service (residents only). Depot locations: Fenelon Landfill 341 Mark Road, Cameron Lindsay Ops Landfill 51 Wilson Road, Lindsay When you drop off household hazardous waste materials, they must be:
- clearly labelled
- in original packaging
- tightly contained with no visible leaks
- less than 15L each (liquids)
If you bring fuel to the landfill, be prepared to leave your container behind. Fuel is never permitted to be dumped out of its container at the landfill. We are unable to accept the following materials:
- unknown substances
- leaking or open containers
- fireworks, flares, ammunition or explosives
- industrial or commercial hazardous waste
The City is required to accept 55lbs (25kgs) of each category of household hazardous waste per customer per day. Please bring small loads of household hazardous waste to the depots. Quantities greater than this may not be accepted in one trip. It will be dependent on whether there adequate storage space available at that time. Examples of household hazardous waste include:

Boats and boat wrap |
Boats |
We accept boats at City landfill sites at a rate of $135 per tonne. When you bring a boat to the landfill you must make sure the fuel tank is empty. Remove the fuel tank from the boat whenever possible. If you can't provide physical evidence that the boat has no fuel in it the boat will not be accepted at the landfill site. Emptying boats of fuel before arriving at the landfill protects the personal safety of landfill attendants and prevents environmental contamination. |
Boat wrap |
Boat wrap is accepted at all landfills in the City and is considered waste. Regular tipping fees of $135 tonne apply. You must roll and tie boat wrap before you bring it to the landfill. |

Agricultural waste |
Bale wrap is accepted at all landfills in the City and is considered waste. Regular tipping fees of $135 tonne apply. You must roll and tie bale wrap before you bring it to the landfill. All City landfill sites accept electronics for recycling at no charge. Examples of the types of electronics we accept include:
