The City of Kawartha Lakes is the Consolidated Municipal Service Manager (CMSM) for the administration of Social Services programs for the City and the County of Haliburton. The City is also the designated Delivery Agent for the County under the Ontario Works Act, Child Care and Early Years Act and the Housing Services Act.
The Social Services Division is responsible for the administration of the Ontario Works (OW) program including:
- Employment and Financial Services
- Eligibility Verification Process (EVP)
- Overpayment Recovery
- Eligibility Review and Quality Assurance programs
- During Municipal declared emergencies, the department is responsible for providing emergency social services
The division is also responsible for Children's Services Programs including:
- Child Care Fee Subsidy Services
- Children with Special Needs Services
- Child Care Operating Fund Services
- Community Social Investment Fund (CSIF)
Staff also deliver homelessness prevention services in conjunction with the City's Housing Services.
Integrated planning is intended to streamline and better co-ordinate related program planning and delivery. The 2017-2018 plan supports the Human Services department's integrated approach to the delivery of people-centred programs and services that are responsive to the needs of the individual for residents in the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Haliburton. Revisions to this plan will be made as plans for other service areas are developed.
