Downtown Fenelon Reconstruction

diggin' downtown fenelon falls

Downtown Fenelon Falls is open!

Fall in love with Fenelon Falls.

The summer might be over, but there's still lots to do in and around Downtown Fenelon Falls. Layer up this fall, grab your favourite hot beverage and head over to a nearby park, visit the trails along the locks, check out the new attractions and shop the downtown.

#diggindowntownfenelonfalls

Fenelon Falls is currently undergoing a reconstruction of the downtown area on Colborne Street, between Water Street and Bond Street West. This page will provide you with the latest information on construction and Diggin' Downtown Fenelon Falls, a campaign to help give local businesses a boost during the reconstruction project.

While construction and COVID-19 present short-term challenges, businesses continue to serve the community. There are still a variety of convenient ways to shop and businesses remain open for curbside pick-up or delivery and with social distancing protocols in place. Please reach out to a local business directly to check their availability.

This essential work to our roads and underground infrastructure will provide a needed revitalization to Fenelon Falls' Downtown that will benefit the community and businesses for many years to come. Meanwhile to support businesses during construction, Diggin' Downtown Fenelon Falls will highlight businesses in the construction area and help shoppers navigate around the construction.

Follow along in the coming months as we share updates and take part by sharing your shopping experiences in the downtown using #diggindowntownfenelonfalls. Stay home, stay safe and support local!

 Essential Business Strategies
Here are some tips to support your business to thrive in the midst of construction.
Keep customers and vendors informed

Help ensure that your customers have the opportunity to access parking.

  • Inform your customers of the closest parking lots
  • Inform vendors or delivery agencies of changes to road access
  • Encourage staff to park in lots outside of the downtown core
 Meet your customers online

Ensure you have multiple channels for your customers to find and know what you have available, especially during COVID-19. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Research Online, Purchase Offline: Customers are researching products online, then purchasing in store. Use your online space to show them your offering and what’s available.
  • Buy Online, Pick-up In Store: Offering Pick-up In Store and Curbside allows you to make the sale and customers to feel safe while browsing online, particularly during COVID-19.
  • Get creative and find alternate ways to bring your product to your customer. Options include home delivery, pick-up models, meetings or consultations.
  • Get set-up with an online store for free with shopHERE.
 Keep a positive customer experience
Invite your customers to visit often during construction so they see progress in real-time. Customers will remember your opinion of the construction and your excitement will leave them wanting to come back.
 Enhance your marketing

Look at your overall marketing strategy - is it doing what you need? Maybe it’s time to update your approach.

  • Visit digitalmainstreet.ca for free resources and training tutorials to help you build a digital plan
  • Kawartha Lakes has hired a Digital Service Squad to help businesses with free digital consulting, book your free session today.
Be creative to attract customers
  • Host promotions or events for your customers, try limited time items, new products or weekly specials and announcements.
  • Be creative and don’t forget to share your promotions on social media, follow @EcDevKL and use #diggindowntownfenelonfalls
Brighten your storefront
  • Bring new colour to your window displays to draw attention and brighten the customer experience.
  • Apply for funding for an upgrade at kawarthalakes.ca/makeover
Collaborate with your neighbours
  • Look for ways to cross-promote events and sales with other businesses, even those outside the construction area.
  • Consider collaborative discounts, coupons or complimentary events

About the reconstruction project

The municipality of Kawartha Lakes, through their consultant Ainley Graham & Associates Limited (Ainley Group) is undertaking the detailed design for the reconstruction of Colborne Street in the community of Fenelon Falls. The project involves full road reconstruction including watermain, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer replacement, new curb and gutter and streetscape improvements.

What?

Road reconstruction:

  • Between Bond Street and Water Street
  • Underground replacement of storm sewer, sanitary sewer and watermain
  • Concrete curb and gutter work
  • Dedicated right and left turn lanes added
  • New furnishing and pedestrian walkways

Why?

Did you know that the infrastructure in downtown Fenelon is over 60 years old? That means that the underground utilities, such as the storm sewer, sanitary sewer and watermain systems are outdated and need replacing. At the same time, we are taking the opportunity to address the road, sidewalk, landscaping and walkability features of the area.
