Mayor and Council

As a single-tier municipality, Kawartha Lakes is governed by City Council consisting of the Mayor and one councillor from each of the City's wards. Residents elect members of Council to serve four-year terms in office.

Your Mayor

The current Mayor of Kawartha Lakes is Doug Elmslie.

The current Deputy Mayor of Kawartha Lakes is Ward 7 Councillor Charlie McDonald.

Events

The Mayor's Office receives invitations for the Mayor and/or Councillors to attend significant events in the community. Please try to give us as much notice as possible as there are many events in Kawartha Lakes. The Mayor and Councillors intend to attend as many as possible, however this may not always be an option. The Mayor's Office may suggest having the Deputy Mayor or local Councillor attend your event in place of the Mayor. Please contact the Mayor's Office to coordinate an invitation to your event: 705-324-9411 ext. 1310.

Certificates

The Mayor's Office offers certificates of congratulations to Kawartha Lakes residents celebrating milestone birthdays or anniversaries in our community. You can request a Certificate of Congratulations from the Mayor or your local Councillor online. Please allow two weeks for certificate preparation.

Council and committee meetings

Members of the public can access agendas and minutes for City Council, Planning Advisory Committee and Committee of Adjustment meetings. Subscribe to our Council and Committee Calendar to stay informed about upcoming meeting dates.

You can request to speak before council by registering as a delegation and make a deputation.

Letters and petitions to Council

Live-streaming of meetings

For those who can't attend a meeting in person, all Regular City Council Meetings and Special Council Meetings are broadcasted live on YourTV (Cogeco Subscribers Channel 10, HD 700), and live-streamed on the City's Youtube page. More details are available on our Council Meeting Broadcasts page.

Other boards and committees

In addition to Council, Kawartha Lakes is served by a variety of boards and committees. Most of which include members of the public as well as members of council. These boards and committees provide advice and recommendations to Council.

Days of Significance

If you would like to request an external Day of Significance, such as a flag-raising or Council recognition, please complete the Days of Significance Request Form. Please note there is criteria for such requests to be accepted and forms should be completed 30 days prior to the date being requested.
