With October designated as National Library Month and the third week of October (October 20 to 26) being Ontario Public Library Week, all residents are invited to join in celebrating the vital role public libraries play in enhancing education, fostering literacy, and building community connections. Three exciting events will take place in October to encourage residents to visit their local library branch.
Book Cart Naming Contest: Are you good with puns and play on words? The library is looking for suggestions of fun names for the many book carts used in library branches across Kawartha Lakes. Visit your local library branch to fill out an entry form. Winning names will be shared on social media and name plates will be attached to a book carts.
Be A Librarian For A Day: Ever wonder what it’s like to work in a public library? Adults are invited to enter a draw to see what it’s like to work at a public library. Visit your local library branch for contest details and to fill out a ballot.
Refer A Friend Campaign: Share your love of public libraries with family, friends and neighbours. Library patrons can pick up a referral card that they can give to someone who does not already have a library account. Anyone getting a new library card, as well as the patron who referred them will be entered into a draw to win a fun prize.

See what’s new in our ever-expanding collection in the Library of Things, or check out a free pass to passes to numerous local cultural, educational and recreational facilities.
“Making a visit to your local library branch a weekly tradition for you and the children in your life is a great break for parents and caregivers,” says Marieke Junkin, Manager of Programming and Public Services. “With free story times, craft events and a variety of drop in activities, kids are sure to be entertained. And there is lots for adults to enjoy as well. All of our library branches are equipped with free Wi-Fi, public computers, photocopiers and printers. Meet new people, learn a new skill, or become better at using technology through the various events and activities that take place each week at your local branch."
