Join our Bee City in Celebrating Pollinator Week June 18 to 24
Kawartha Lakes – As a Bee City, the City of Kawartha Lakes is happy to announce the celebration of International Pollinator Week from June 18 to 24. This week-long event celebrates the pollinator services provided by beetles, bird, butterflies, bats and bees. The City encourages all to celebrate Pollinator Week by taking part in activities such as gardening, learning about pollinators, building “bee condos” or attending Pollinator Week events.
There will be four bee and pollination information sessions held at various City of Kawartha Lakes library branches during Pollination Week. Visit the Kinmount Library on June 19, the Omemee Library on June 20, the Kirkfield Library on June 21 or the Bethany Library on June 23 to learn about the valuable environmental services pollinators provide. These presentations, delivered by Susan Blayney, Chair of the City of Kawartha Lakes Pollinator Action Committee, will be educational, informative and fun. Residents are also encouraged to visit Pollinator Week displays in all 14 City library branches.
Pollination is a vital stage in the life cycle of all flowering plants and is necessary for healthy and productive ecosystems. Bees, butterflies and other pollinators are critically important to all ecosystems as they contribute to the creation of healthy plants everywhere. Pollinator Week is about celebrating pollinators and protecting them so they can continue to contribute to the environment.
