City reminds residents to place recycling in bins, not bags

As explained in the annual Recycling & Waste Collection Calendar and on the City website, recycling must be placed in wide-mouthed bins (such as blue and green boxes) at the curb in order to participate in curbside collection. This requirement was instated in 2007, and is outlined in section 3.05 of By-Law 2016-144.

The Clear Bag Waste Collection program, which becomes mandatory on January 1, 2017, applies to garbage collection only. Recycling must still be placed loosely in bins for collection.

More information about the Clear Bag Waste Collection program and recycling requirements is available on the Waste Management section of city.kawarthalakes.on.ca, or by calling 705-324-9411.

Each year the City creates a Recycling & Waste Collection Calendar that contains detailed information about waste management programs and curbside collection. Calendars can be picked up at your nearest Municipal Service Centre. The 2017 calendar is expected to be available for residents in late November 2016.
