Kawartha Lakes – At the September 24 Council meeting, engineering staff brought forward two reports requesting modifications of the current Downtown Lindsay Reconstruction project.
The first was a report outlining an update to the recommended phases of the project. The project will be completed in four main phases, with phase one currently under construction. The intent of the updated phases is to minimize the construction occurring on Kent Street during the summer months while also allowing for a flexible schedule to meet realistic timelines for a project of this size and capacity.
The second report was a request to conduct an early-start approval for the 2020 phase of the Downtown Reconstruction, outlining the impacts that an early approval within this fiscal budget year would have on cost efficiencies and project management for the project.
“By approving an early start to this phase of the reconstruction, we are able to get ahead of anticipated needs surrounding the project,” stated Juan Rojas, Director, Engineering and Corporate Assets. “We want to ensure that we are managing all aspects of the project to the best of our abilities. Opening the bid early to secure a good tender price and starting construction as early as possible in spring of 2020 help a complex project like the downtown reconstruction. It affects the entire community so getting a head start is an extremely important step.”
