Kawartha Lakes – The Diggin’ Downtown Omemee construction project is set to start the week of September 12, 2022.

The scope of the project is a full reconstruction of King Street (HWY 7) in downtown Omemee including; replacements of storm sewers, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and streetscape improvements.

King Street, between James Street North and the Pigeon River bridge, will be down to one traffic lane only during construction.

Residents and commuters may start to see signage going up and equipment mobilizing during the week of September 6, 2022 but the expectation is that both lanes of King Street will remain open until construction begins the following week. Traffic travelling in the opposite direction will be detoured on Mary Street, which runs parallel to King.

As previously announced, the project will be substantially funded by the Ministry of Transportation’s 2022-23 Connecting Links Program, with the municipality funding the remaining costs.

The underground and ‘shave and pave’ work will take place throughout the fall. There will be a break over the winter and the project will pick back up in Spring 2023 with completion targeted for July 2023.

Local businesses will remain open during construction and we encourage residents and visitors to continue to support them throughout the reconstruction project.
