Kawartha Lakes – Weather permitting, the Diggin’ Downtown Omemee construction project is tentatively set to resume the week of April 10, 2023.

The scope of the project is a full reconstruction of King Street (Hwy 7) in downtown Omemee including replacements of storm sewers, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and streetscape improvements.

The majority of the underground and road reconstruction work took place from September to December 2022. The project went on a break over the winter and if the weather cooperates it is set to return the week of April 10.

On Monday March 27, prior to the restart of the road construction, the contractor will be working to replace the poles of the traffic lights at the King Street and Sturgeon Road intersection. Both lanes of traffic will remain open for this part of the project. Slight delays can be expected; a Police Officer will be present to direct traffic when needed.

The Spring road construction work will start with the replacement of storm sewers within the intersection of King Street and Sturgeon Road and the replacement of storm sewers between James Street and Sturgeon Road. Road reconstruction, concrete curb, concrete sidewalk, and streetscape improvement work will follow.

Completion of the project is targeted for July 2023 and detours will be in place the week of April 10, should the weather hold up and the work begin.

Local businesses will remain open during construction and we encourage residents and visitors to continue to support them throughout the reconstruction project.

As previously announced, the project will be substantially funded by the Ministry of Transportation’s 2022-23 Connecting Links Program, with the municipality funding the remaining costs.
