Increasing Access to EarlyON Child and Family Centre Services for residents of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Haliburton

The City of Kawartha Lakes will be increasing access to programs and services through EarlyON Child and Family Centres over the coming months. EarlyON supports children from birth to six years old and their caregivers and offers free drop-in programs.

“Improving access to service will provide more families with the opportunity to attend EarlyON programs,” said Janine Mitchell, Manager of Social Services with the City of Kawartha Lakes. “You can learn and play with your child, meet people, or get professional advice.”

EarlyON has five goals that will increase access to better serve the children and families in our community:

  1. Increasing summer programs - Programming will be regular and consistent throughout the year, including the summer months.
  2. More Saturday programs - There will be more locations open on Saturdays throughout the year.
  3. Expand weekly programs to more communities - Weekly EarlyON programs are being planned in more communities.
  4. Enhancing drop-in programs - Elements of parent education programs such as Mother Goose for infants, Fit Kids and Infant Massage will be made available within many of the new and existing drop-in programs.
  5. Adding more hours of service - An increase in the number of EarlyON hours of service across the County of Haliburton and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

EarlyON centres are welcoming places that currently offer a range of services including:

  • Fun activities such as reading, storytelling, sing-alongs and games
  • Getting advice from professionals trained in early childhood development
  • Learning more about other family services in your community
  • Connecting with other families with young children

Starting in 2018, all provincially-funded child and family programs will be offered under a single umbrella - EarlyON Child and Family Centres.
