Forbert Memorial Pool capital improvement work continues

Forbert Memorial Pool

Forbert Memorial PoolAs many municipal recreation facilities begin to re-open, the Forbert Memorial Pool in Bobcaygeon will remain closed while capital improvement work continues on the facility.

The facility has been the focus of multiple capital projects over the last three years. Phase one of the Boiler and HVAC design work commenced in 2018 followed by a tender being awarded and construction taking place in 2019. Extensive work was completed, including a small addition to the facility to house the building’s mechanical equipment as the result of inadequate space to provide the appropriate room to maintain and house the new equipment. During the 2019 construction a detailed review of the building envelope and structure were completed. As a result, the need for building improvements were discovered.  A remediation and reconstruction plan was developed for structural walls and that project was combined with the second phase of the HVAC/ventilation work and was approved in the City’s 2020 Capital budget.

The second phase of the HVAC work was awarded in the spring of 2020. The building structural wall remediation project was tendered in the third quarter of 2020 and has now been awarded to a building contractor. The second phase of the HVAC project is well underway and the balance of the equipment is being delivered early September 2020 with installation taking place immediately after. The building remediation contractor will mobilize to site beginning September 21 and will commence with their building demolition and construction work immediately.

The entire project is expected to extend into mid-December 2020 as material and equipment delays are expected as a result of COVID-19. The opening of the facility to the public is anticipated for January 1, 2021.
