Free Tragically Hip concert screening in Bobcaygeon this weekend

Bobcaygeon has enjoyed a close association with the Tragically Hip, one of Canada’s iconic rock bands, since the song “Bobcaygeon” deputed on the band’s 1998 album Phantom Power. Since that time, it has grown to be one of the Hip’s signature tracks.

This Saturday marks the final concert in the farewell tour by the band, sweeping from Vancouver to Kingston, the childhood home of Gord Downie. Downie is the band’s lead singer and was recently diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

Councillor Kathleen Seymour-Fagan comments, “We are excited about this opportunity to showcase Bobcaygeon, and we are grateful to those who have made it possible including Aaron Shaw of Crazy Monkey Tree Services, Sherry Peel of Bigley Shoes and Clothing and the volunteers of Impact 32. I’m thrilled that our community is coming together for a special night to celebrate the Tragically Hip’s last concert.”

Bring your own lawn chair to Bolton Street in Bobcaygeon this Saturday night and watch the concert under the stars. A gigantic screen will broadcast the concert live on CBC starting at 8:30 pm. Donations can be made to the Cancer Society.
