Hidden Doors’ fundraiser to support art program at Victoria Manor
Kawartha Lakes – On Monday April 1 from 5pm to 7pm, artist Dagmar Pinney will host a fundraising event at Pane Vino Trattoria and Wine Barin Lindsay to support the ‘Hidden Doors’ program at Victoria Manor. The ‘Hidden Doors’ program addresses the problem that seniors suffering from dementia often wander in and out of rooms, accidentally breaching the privacy of other residents living in long term care facilities like Victoria Manor.
“Dagmar’s enthusiasm for the ‘Hidden Doors’ project has been amazing,” says Holly Speedie, Manager of Resident and Family Services at Victoria Manor. “She organized this fundraiser independently, which really shows how much she cares about the residents.”
Artist Dagmar Pinney started a ‘Hidden Doors’ program at Victoria Manor in 2018, where she paints murals on residents’ doors in order to prevent patients with dementia from entering. To support this program, Pinney will hold a fundraising event to raise money for the program.
“We have personally lost family members to Alzheimer’s and have seen firsthand the pain this has caused,” says artist Dagmar Pinney. “I take great joy when I see people looking at my work and smiling.”
The fundraiser will feature an art show and silent auction, and Pinney will donate a percentage of the art sales to Victoria Manor to support the ‘Hidden Doors’ project. Pane Vino will be providing antipasto platters and nibbles with a wine/beer bar at a reduced rate.
