Ongoing Impacts and Safety Reminder
The freezing rain storm continues to have widespread impacts across the municipality. With strong winds expected tonight, there is a risk of additional damage.
We strongly encourage residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary and to check in on vulnerable neighbours—only if it’s safe to do so.
The municipality’s Emergency Operations Centre has been active throughout the day, closely monitoring conditions and coordinating response efforts. Cleanup operations will proceed alongside Hydro One crews as they work to complete essential power restoration work.
For the latest updates and important information, please visit the municipality’s website and follow our social media channels. Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.
Roads
The Significant Weather Event Declaration has been in effect since March 29, 2025. A full callout was issued at 4am Sunday March 30. A number of routes are unable to be serviced due to downed trees. Several downed power lines are creating hazards. Please respect the barricades put in place by police and public works.
Urban roads are in better condition than rural roads in general. Multiple crews of contracted and Parks staff arborists are being deployed. We have engaged an outside contractors for equipment to remove trees from roads and this remains the priority.
Please do not report a downed tree across roads; we are taking steps to clear the roads as quickly and safely as possible.
Road closures and conditions are available at www.municipal511.ca.

Hydro One Update – crews out in full force
Crews are out in full force, working alongside our contractors through challenging conditions to restore power to customers. More than 257,000 customers have been restored since the start of the storm. Outages continue to be caused by tree limbs and branches being weighed down from the accumulation of freezing rain. A second round of freezing rain is expected and may continue to impact power lines and road conditions. At this time, we anticipate it will take several days to restore all customers. We won’t stop until every customer is restored.
Due to changing conditions from this storm, you may get multiple text updates as we work to safely restore your power and do our best to keep you informed.
Hydro One prioritizes restoration in a way that brings power back to the greatest number of customers in the shortest period of time. Crews need to repair and rebuild main lines along with other key pieces of electricity infrastructure before repairs can be made to power lines that serve smaller numbers of customers.
Stay clear of any fallen power lines. If you spot a fallen line, keep at least 10 metres back, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to 911 and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.
To protect your home from flooding, where safe to do so, remove debris from gutters, eavestroughs and downspouts. If flooding occurs and water starts to reach electrical outlets, baseboard heaters or furnace, customers should call us at 1-800-434-1235 to have power safely turned off. Do not enter any flooded areas, such as the basement, until power is disconnected.
