After a successful Opening Day, Day two of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM) 2024 promises even more excitement and opportunities for visitors to dive deeper into the heart of agriculture and rural life in Kawartha Lakes.

Today’s plowing competitions continue with horse plowing at 10am and tractor plowing at 9:30am and 11am. Spectators can hop on shuttles from Gate 2 to reach the plowing fields and watch the best plowmen and women in action. As plowing competitors vie for top honors, the future of the sport is also on display at the Junior Plowing Competition, starting at 8:30am.

“Our plowing competitions are at the core of the IPM, and we’re thrilled to see so many talented individuals competing,” says Bob Armstrong, Chair of the IPM. “It’s always exciting to see the next generation of plowers take to the field.”

Kawartha Lakes Mayor Doug Elmslie encourages visitors to explore the region.

“This event highlights not only the best in agriculture but also the welcoming spirit of our community. As you enjoy the IPM, take some time to discover the charm of our local businesses and the beauty of Kawartha Lakes,” said Mayor Elmslie. “We’re proud to host this incredible event.”

Beyond the plow fields, there is plenty happening in Tented City, where over 500 vendors and exhibitors will be showcasing everything from the latest in farming technology to handmade crafts. At the Ritchie Bros. Tent, learn about sustainable farming practices, and don’t miss the Trillium Ford Tailgate Talks, happening at 11am and 2pm.

Entertainment continues on multiple stages, including a performance by Naomi Bristow on the Ontario Mutuals Main Stage, while the Canadian Cowgirls and the Great Canadian Lumberjack Show return for another thrilling day of action at the RAM Truck Corral.

“Today is a great opportunity to explore the diverse offerings of the IPM. Whether you’re interested in livestock, farming innovations, or just want to enjoy some great entertainment, there’s something here for everyone,” Armstrong adds.
