The 105th International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM)has officially begun today, and the culmination of months of planning and building towards this day is evident with the excitement at the Lindsay Fairgrounds. From October 1 to 5, visitors can experience the best of agriculture, rural living, and community spirit in the heart of Kawartha Lakes.

The day begins with the Bruce Power Opening Day Parade at 10am, followed by the Opening Ceremony at 11:30am on the Ontario Mutuals Main Stage. The plowing competitions will kick off shortly after, with both horse plowing at 10am and VIP plowing at 2pm. Visitors can take shuttles to the plowing fields from Gate 2 to witness these exciting events.

“There’s a real buzz in the air as we welcome visitors from all across Ontario and beyond,” says Bob Armstrong, Chair of the IPM. “We are so proud to showcase Kawartha Lakes and our agricultural heritage.”

Kawartha Lakes Mayor Doug Elmslie also extends his warm welcome to attendees.

“We are thrilled to have the IPM in Kawartha Lakes,” said Mayor Elmslie. “This event is a fantastic opportunity to highlight our region’s vibrant agricultural sector and the charm of our city. Whether it’s your first visit or you’re returning, you’ll quickly understand why Kawartha Lakes is such a wonderful place to call home and build a future.”

In addition to the plowing competitions, the Tented City will be bustling with hundreds of vendors, exhibits, and hands-on activities for all ages. Stop by the Ritchie Bros. Farming for the Future Tent to see innovative farming technologies and take part in the Hydro One Education Centre, which features livestock and various interactive demonstrations throughout the day.

Don’t miss the entertainment! The Great Canadian Lumberjack Show takes the stage at 11am and 2:30pm, and the crowd-favorite Canadian Cowgirls will perform their precision horseback drills at 3pm. For music lovers, the Ontario Mutuals Main Stage will host performances from Montana Sky and Melissa Payne throughout the afternoon.

“There’s truly something for everyone at the IPM, from the agricultural showcases to the great entertainment lineup. We invite everyone to explore all that the IPM has to offer,” Armstrong adds.
