Kawartha Lakes announces appointment of Andrew Rafton as Paramedics Chief

Andrew Rafton, Paramedics Chief

Andrew Rafton, Paramedics ChiefKawartha Lakes - At the Committee of the Whole meeting of February 4, 2020, CAO Ron Taylor announced the appointment of Andrew Rafton to the position of Paramedics Chief.

CAO Taylor thanked Chief Rafton for his service to Kawartha Lakes Paramedics over the last 18 years, most recently in his role as Acting Chief over the last several months.

“We have a large number of projects currently underway that I’d like to see to fruition. Our Ministry of Health accreditation process is one of them. The International Plowing Match will also require many of our resources to support the increase in visitors,” remarked Rafton. “The timing of this appointment is good in that it will allow the opportunity for a full recruitment of a new Chief as I will be retiring at the end of this year,” noted Rafton.

For the first time, the Service has two Deputy Chiefs as a result of the promotion of Sara Johnston and the hire of Patricia Bromfield. This change in structure allocates more resources to front line staff, less senior management and results in a more efficient model to service the community’s needs.

Chief Rafton took the opportunity to congratulate Sara Johnston on her appointment as Deputy Chief, Professional Standards and thank her for her leadership since April 2019 as Acting Deputy Chief. Patricia Bromfield joins Kawartha Lakes Paramedics Service as Deputy Chief, Operations. Bromfield began her career with Toronto Paramedic Service in 2005 and most recently held the position of Acting Deputy Commander with their service.
