Kawartha Lakes observes National Day of Mourning

The City of Kawartha Lakes encourages all local employers to take a moment on April 28 to observe this important day and to take steps to ensure that every worker returns home safely, every day. Within the City of Kawartha Lakes, there are activities planned to honour this important day, including observing a moment of silence and lowering the flags at City Hall to half-staff.

"Today, we remember the losses that have taken place in workplaces across our municipality, and across the country. With that remembrance comes an increased commitment to prevention," explains Ron Taylor, CAO.

The City's administration understands that health and safety goes beyond a single day event. A renewed commitment to safety has been made, including the implementation of a formal health and safety strategy focused on controlling the hazards in the many diverse workplaces across the municipality.

"In the environment in which we work, hazards exist all around us. It's the responsibility of every City employee to recognize these hazards and to prevent them where we can. It is management's responsibility to have in place an accessible plan for preventing, and when necessary, reporting accidents and workplace related illnesses," commented Taylor.
