Kawartha Lakes Public Library to host workshop by award-winning author

“Every fiction writer knows the essential elements of story they must address in their work—character, setting, plot, conflict and point of view,” says Overend. “The mistake many make when attempting to write a short story is in assuming it is simply a slice or snapshot of a novel. It isn’t. Short stories and novels are apples and oranges and require different approaches.”

The workshop will be held on Wednesday October 19 at 2pm at the Lindsay branch of Kawartha Lakes Public Library.

Sharon Overend’s short stories have appeared in several Canadian and international literary journals and anthologies. A graduate of the University of Toronto Continuing Studies creative writing program, her short story “For Sale” won the 2010 Random House Student Award. In 2014, her short story “Step Away” was nominated for a Journey Prize, Canada’s premier award for short stories. She and her husband recently moved to Kawartha Lakes where she plans to let nature inspire many more writing projects including her latest work-in-progress, Stillwater Lake.
