Kawartha Lakes reports on service re-openings and reviews as winter approaches

covid-19 updates

Kawartha Lakes – At the October 20 Council meeting, CAO Ron Taylor provided an update on the ways the City has moved forward with pandemic response and recovery.

Service offering throughout October

  • Arenas - Lindsay (2 ice pads), Fenelon Falls, Emily/Omemee, Little Britain, Woodville and Manvers open
  • Many Community and Arena Halls remain closed or experiencing minimal bookings
  • Provincial Offences in-person court matters remain closed
  • The Coboconk and Omemee Service Centres continue to be open to the public
  • Libraries open to the public in Lindsay and Fenelon Falls; all other branches are offering curbside services and all branches are operating on a ‘fine free’ basis
  • City Administration buildings remain closed to the public
  • Council and committee meetings are taking place in electronic formats

Future services under review

Staff continue to review the changing requirements for local services including:

  • Targeting Lindsay Service Centre opening on November 16
  • By-appointment meetings for certain services will become available using the City website or by phone
  • Reviewing requirements and expectations for winter control with the likelihood that as many as 25,000 seasonal residents may remain in Kawartha Lakes this winter, predominantly in rural locations

“We have to keep nimble in the face of constant change. We are monitoring the ‘second wave’ trends and possible further restrictions ahead. As we head into November, the changing needs for service delivery to residents in the winter months is top of mind,” commented Ron Taylor, CAO.

In November, Council will receive recommendations from the Economic Recovery and Community Recovery Task Forces on how the municipality can further support the community to recover from the pandemic.
