Kawartha Lakes Ward 5 Councillor By-Election nominations are now open

Kawartha Lakes – Nominations for the by-election to fill the City Councillor position for Ward 5 are now open until Monday, February 24, 2025 at 2:00pm. All required forms for nomination are to be hand delivered to City Hall during an appointment with the Office of the City Clerk. Candidates, their agents, and third party advertisers for the Ward 5 By-Election are invited to book an appointment to file their nomination or registration through the Kawartha Lakes Election appointment booking system. An appointment is required to ensure election staff are available to receive the nomination paperwork.

Twenty-five (25) endorsement signatures of Kawartha Lakes electors collected on the prescribed form are required to file a nomination for the Office of City Councillor with the $100.00 filing fee. Prospective candidates must be an elector in Kawartha Lakes to be eligible for office. One (1) seat is being elected to fill the vacant position of City Councillor for Ward 5. Ward 5 is commonly described as all properties in Lindsay north of Kent Street, Riverview Road, Weldon Road, and Dew Drop Inn Road, including some limited rural areas around the northern half of the Lindsay and Ops area. The voting period for the by-election is from Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 9:00am to Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 8:00pm. Eligible electors can vote at any time over the 10 days from anywhere in the world, using internet connected devices. Envelopes containing a unique PIN and voting instructions will be mailed to all Ward 5 electors in late March. Electors requiring assistance may vote in-person using a touchscreen voting kiosk at City Hall (26 Francis Street, Lindsay) or the Lindsay Library Branch (190 Kent Street West). There will be no paper ballots or proxy voting.
