MP Jamie Schmale visits Victoria Manor and discusses issues facing long term care homes

Kawartha Lakes – Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock Member of Parliament Jamie Schmale visited Victoria Manor during the month of March to discuss the importance of addressing the problems that the vulnerable senior population and their long term care facilities face.

The MP met with Pam Kulas, Executive Director at Victoria Manor, who provided him with a tour of the long-term care home and engaged in a conversation about the issues facing seniors in Canada and the work Victoria Manor does to make their residents happy.

“I was proud to share with MP Schmale that Victoria Manor has a resident satisfaction score of 94% and a family satisfaction rate of 90%,” says Kulas. “Despite this, it’s still important to speak with our representatives about the issues long term care facilities face when caring for seniors.”

During the tour, representatives of Victoria Manor described some of the challenges facing the maintenance of long-term care homes, including the difficulty long term care homes face in finding qualified team members who are passionate about working with seniors. They also discussed the importance of ensuring a quality of care that meets the needs of residents through rebuilding long term care homes, increasing capacity for the future and reducing compliance measures that affect direct care hours.

“MP Schmale was very impressed with Victoria Manor,” adds Kulas. “He really appreciated the positive atmosphere and enjoyed interacting with the residents and staff while he was on tour.”
