Kawartha Lakes – Due to the impacts of the ongoing ice storm emergency in Kawartha Lakes, we’re expecting more organics food waste than usual.
As a result, we will be increasing organics collection efforts for households in the Organics Program.
We ask that you continue to use your provided rollout cart. If your food/organics waste doesn’t fit in the cart, additional organics can be put in compostable bags in other containers during the increase period. If you are using extra containers, please make sure they weigh 40 pounds or less for collector safety.
Reminder: Please remove all spoiled food from packaging before putting it in your organics rollout cart. If rollout carts have packaging in them, they will be left behind to protect the processing facility from contamination.
Visit our Organics Program page for instructions on how the program works, help with sorting and any other questions you may have.
Rural Residents without Organics Program
Residents in rural areas should continue to use their backyard composters and curbside collection. The week of April 7 is now a double garbage collection week. To assist with spoiled food waste, all households (rural and urban) can put out two extra garbage bags for collection next week. Bags should not weigh more than 40 pounds.
Note:
Next week there will be double garbage collection for organics program households as well. Please put spoiled food in with your organic waste (as outlined above), not in your additional garbage bags.
