Outdoor Ice Rink preparations now underway

Lacing up skates

ice skateKawartha Lakes – Staff have commenced in arranging and recruiting volunteers in preparation for a variety of Community Outdoor Ice Rinks throughout the municipality this winter. The Parks, Recreation and Culture Division recognizes and appreciates the valuable contributions community volunteers contribute to assisting, preparing and maintaining the Outdoor Ice Rinks throughout the winter months.

Community Outdoor Ice Rinks are weather permitting and require several days of cold temperatures to layer the ice surface and adequately prepare a rink that is strong enough to use and suitable for skating.

The new Skating Loop at Logie Park in Lindsay is also schedule to open this winter. This outdoor refrigerated Skating Loop will be the first of its kind in Kawartha Lakes. To allow for proper preparations to take place, residents are asked to remain patient during the process and stay off of the ice surface for their own safety.

Due to the forecasted weather, it may take a bit longer before adequate ice can be made at many outdoor ice rinks. For updates on when the rinks will be open for the season visit the Outdoor Ice Rinks page or e-mail: recreation@kawarthalakes.ca
