Kawartha Lakes - The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has issued a strike notice and will be in a legal position to strike as early as Monday October 22. Should a rotating strike action occur, the postal service would continue to operate but service disruptions may result in mail taking longer to reach its destination.
Canada Post has advised that rotating legal strikes may be isolated to one or two specific locations at a time, affecting those areas for a period of 24 hours. In that situation, Canada Post advises it will continue to accept, process and deliver mail and parcels in all other areas.
City of Kawartha Lakes residents who use the postal system are advised to consider in-person or online methods to pay their bills to ensure that payments are received by the due dates and avoid late payment charges. Please see specific instructions below.
Social Services:
As of October 19, all benefit cheques issued are being issued in person only and will be held in the Lindsay and Haliburton Offices for pick up. This includes all direct client payments as well as trustee, third party and vendor payments. Payments issued by Direct Bank Deposit (DBD) are still being processed normally.
The first of the month cheques for clients, for the month of November, will continue to be available for pick up at local Social Services offices.
