Public Notice: Rivera Park Sanitary Pumping Station Construction

Key Map of Rivera Park Sanitary Pumping Station Construction

Project Overview

The City of Kawartha Lakes wishes to inform you of the upcoming construction of a new sanitary pumping station at the Rivera Park site across the Scugog River from the existing Colborne Street sanitary pumping station.

Major scope of works includes:

  • new sanitary pumping station;
  • sanitary sewer river crossing by microtunnelling;
  • sanitary sewer upgrades to direct flows to new station;
  • new forcemain and interconnection of existing forcemains;
  • generator and control building;
  • decommissioning and demolition of existing Colborne St. pumping station.

The new pumping station will increase capacity to accommodate future development within the local sanitary service area.

The City has awarded the construction of the project to Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd.  D.M. Wills Associates Ltd. has been retained to provide Contract Administration and Construction Inspection services on behalf of the City.

Construction Schedule and Work Hours

The construction schedule for this work is approximately 15 months starting from September 2017 until November 2018.  Regular work hours will be consistent with the City’s noise by-law, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday.   When required, some work may take place outside these normal working hours but this will only be permitted at the discretion of the City and will only be done if absolutely necessary.

How you may be affected

During construction, Colborne Street West (east of William Street North) in the immediate construction area will be closed to through traffic periodically.  However, uninterrupted access to local traffic to Carew Apartments south parking lot and to the rear of 140 William Street North building will be provided for the duration of the construction.

The current Lindsay Transit bus route from William Street North through Colborne Street West to Carew Apartments will temporarily be redirected via Pottinger Street.  Further details of temporary bus routes and schedules will be provided by the City’s Public Works Department (Fleet Services).

The walking trail through the existing pumping station site (on the west side of the Scugog River) will be rerouted outside of the construction zone with appropriate signage of Trail Closures/Detours.

The south parking lot for Rivera Park and the park area (south of the Sinister Creek on the east side of the Scugog River) will be closed for the duration of construction.

A major construction activity will be underground rock breaking (no blasting) and removal.  The neighbouring residents may experience some noise and possibility of vibration during rock breaking.

The existing wastewater collection systems will remain in operation during construction and commissioning of the new or modified works and all temporary sewage diversions (bypass) will take place with minimum disruption to the operation of the systems.
