Kawartha Lakes – More than 52,000 residents have received a vaccine who live in the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit. The feedback from residents has been overwhelmingly positive.

"I would like to let you know that the vaccination system at the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds is a jewel. The whole experience ran as smooth as silk. From the time I entered the line for the shot, and including the mandatory wait time of fifteen minutes after being vaccinated, was on the road for home in Bobcaygeon in 20 minutes. Thank you to all who were involved in setting up this foolproof system. All of the attendants were kind and took their job very seriously. No lineups or waiting out in the cold. Proud to live in the City of Kawartha Lakes."

"My husband and I received our vaccinations at the Fenelon Falls Community Centre and could not have had a better experience. From the parking attendant to the officer at the front door to the lady who registered us they were wonderful. Even though it was busy it ran smoothly and efficiently. Huge kudos to all the staff and volunteers at this location during an extremely difficult time."

Those who received their vaccinations at Kawartha Lakes’ two clinics were asked what they’d like others to know; they noted that the clinics are safe, appointments run according to schedule and the overall experience was positive.

Many agencies, staff and volunteers have come together to ensure that residents receive their vaccinations safely and efficiently. Thanks to everyone involved, including: Ross Memorial Hospital for leading the LEX Drive-thru clinic, Kawartha Lakes Paramedics who ensure residents are cleared after the mandatory waiting period, Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service, Community Care volunteers who offer rides, the Rotary Club of Fenelon Falls and other volunteers who offer their time, the HKPR District Health Unit and many others who lend their time and expertise.

A message from the HKPR District Health Unit:

Due to decreases in vaccine supply, the only clinic being offered the week of April 26 is at the Lindsay Exhibition.

Instead, Health Unit staff will be working with partners to operate mobile clinics to reach groups that have been designated as a priority including retirement homes and other congregate settings.

Once more vaccine supply is received locally, the Health Unit will resume its mass immunization clinics and appointments will be available scheduled in the provincial booking system for members of the public to book.

In the meantime, residents aged 40+ may be able to book a vaccination appointment through participating pharmacies. As well, some local primary care providers and family health teams are starting to offer vaccinations to their clients.

Visit the HKPR District Health Unit website for up to date information on vaccination clinics and availability.
