Shaping the Future: Community Discussion on Waste Management in Kawartha Lakes

Integrated Waste Management Strategy banner

This is an exciting time to develop innovative waste management initiatives that make a positive impact on future generations in our community.

Kawartha Lakes – Kawartha Lakes is updating its Integrated Waste Management Strategy (IWMS) to plan for a sustainable future. As our community grows, it’s critical to adopt waste practices that protect the environment, support public safety, and make the best use of municipal resources.

The updated strategy will help residents, businesses and institutions reduce waste, reuse materials, recycle effectively and adopt safe disposal practices. This project builds on the successes of the 2020 to 2024 strategy, which introduced programs such as the Woodchip Mulch Giveaway and Bulky Plastic Recycling.

We need your input to shape the 2025 to 2029 Integrated Waste Management Strategy. You’re invited to two open house events on Saturday, November 30, 2024. The events will provide a chance to learn more about what is being proposed for the IWMS strategy update, give feedback and explore connections between waste management and fire safety.
