Spring storm update – April 17, 10:30am

Public works staff have been on full deployment since Saturday, April 14. Due to the intensity and duration of the storm we have been balancing staff and contracted resources to ensure we address primary roads in accordance with the winter level of service policy.

Many of our gravel roads have limited to no frost. When this is combined with wet conditions, plow activity on the roads can cause damage to the road and create a serious safety concern for drivers.

Due to these factors Monday, April 16 was the first day we had an opportunity to safely address rural and secondary roads.

We are fully deployed again today (Tuesday, April 17) and are actively reviewing roads to ensure service is provided. If there are specific roads that have not received service, please report them to customer service by calling 705-324-9411 or online at www.kawarthalakes.ca/reportit so the area supervisor can be notified and work to fix the issue.

This storm has been particularly difficult to manage and we would like to thank the public for their patience as we continue to work to clear the roads. As always, safety is our top priority.

More information about snowplowing and winter road maintenance is available on our website.
