Library to Host Summer Reading Club sign-up event with JUNO award-winning musician, Simon Ward
Kawartha Lakes – Saturday June 23 is the official registration kick-off for the TD Summer Reading Club, so “Get Your Summer Read On”. Visit your local branch library to register, pick up a reading kit and enter your name in a draw. An exciting part of the kick-off event at the Lindsay Branch Library will be an acoustic performance by Lindsay musician, Simon Ward.
Ward will unveil a collection of Lego Minifigures that he has graciously donated to the library. Made up of hundreds of pieces, the collection will be on permanent display at the Lindsay Branch Library for all to see. The collection includes many famous characters of children’s literature, from Peter Pan to Harry Potter.
"I've had so much fun building this Lego Display, and was ecstatic when the Kawartha Lakes Public Library agreed to host it,” Simon Ward commented. “The library is a magical place, where reading and imagination meet. It makes me happy knowing that kids may be inspired to take out a book and learn more about the stories behind the minifigures they see.”
As part of the unveiling of the new display collection, Ward will be performing an acoustic performance for kids and their families. The free event will be offered in the Children’s department at the Lindsay Branch Library on Saturday June 23 at 11am. The Lego Mini-fig display will be part of the permanent collection of the library and will be viewable in the entrance foyer of the Lindsay Branch Library during regular library hours.
“While a Lego Minifigure collection is not what you would normally expect to see in a library, I think Simon’s donation is a wonderfully unique gift. I really expect a lot of our younger users to want to visit the display over and over,” added Jamie Anderson, Library Director.
You can check out all the activities taking place this summer at your local library branch by visiting the library’s website and viewing the City’s Events Calendar.
Simon Ward is the principal songwriter of the two-time JUNO Award winning band The Strumbellas. Ward’s songwriting has taken him all over the world and scored him numerous awards including Songwriter of the Year, Best Rock Video and Best New Rock/Alt Rock Artist.
