This year Doors Open Kawartha Lakes will include 12 venues throughout the northwest corridor where people will have a chance to explore iconic heritage buildings, places of worship, commercial properties, and historic private residences.
“Doors Open Kawartha Lakes is a celebration in every sense. Not only is it a chance to reflect on the past and highlight what makes our region so exceptional, but it’s an opportunity to pause and explore our surroundings. We are thrilled to welcome everyone to explore the northwest corridor of Kawartha Lakes with us this year,” comments Laurie McCarthy, Kawartha Lakes Tourism Development Officer.
This event encourages people to take a drive back in time and experience the lives of the pioneers who settled in this region of the former County of Victoria. The following sites are featured on the 2016 Doors Open tour:
- Dalrymple United Church
- Elliot Falls Power Corporation
- Five Gables
- Kett Burial Ground
- Longford Lumber Company
- Morton Homestead
- Mud Lake Cemetery
- Quaker Oaks Farm
- Sadowa Cemetery
- T. Walter Deverell Sugar Shack
- Victoria Falls
- Wylie Road Cabin
Doors Open Kawartha Lakes is organized by Heritage Victoria working with support from the City of Kawartha Lakes and the Ontario Heritage Trust along with many community stakeholders.
