Issued on behalf of: Trent Conservation Coalition Source Protection Committee

Issued: October 24, 2024

A new well is being added to the municipal well system for the King's Bay area to augment the water supply.

This new well is very close to the three existing wells. Technical studies have resulted in some minor changes to the wellhead protection area.

The Trent Conservation Coalition Source Protection Committee is in the process of updating the Assessment Report and maps to reflect the minor changes. They are currently conducting a Public Consultation that ends November 28, 2024. Because the changes are minor, they do not anticipate that the amended Assessment Report will result in many new drinking water threats being added that are not already covered in the existing Source Protection Plan.

For residential properties in the impacted area, the most likely activities that are managed under the Source Protection Plan are fuel oil, home heating oil, waste oil (from doing oil changes) and handling and storage of hazardous chemicals associated with a business. If you do not already have a Risk Management Plan for these types of activities, you may need a Risk Management Plan. These required plans are developed by negotiations between you and the Risk Management Official and will involve recognizing what measures are currently in place and what measures need to be added to ensure that the activity does not impact the drinking water supply. Also, septic systems in the red area on the attached Amended Wellhead Protection Area Map will need to be inspected every five years.

Any existing Risk Management Plans for agricultural properties will be reviewed by the Risk Management Official once the amended is approved by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks but we do not anticipate any major changes will be required.

You have an opportunity to comment on the proposed changes, view the amended Assessment Report here. Please provide your feedback on the proposed amendments to Keith Taylor, Source Protection Program Coordinator, keith.taylor@ltc.on.ca  by November 28, 2024.
