advanced job skills training program

advanced job skills training programKawartha Lakes – In partnership with Fleming College and VCCS Employment Services, and funded by the Ontario government, Kawartha Lakes is pleased to announce the AdvancEd – Job Skills Training Program. AdvancEd provides support to local employers as they look to strengthen their job retention efforts and hire qualified local job seekers for entry level positions. This program provides tuition-free training to staff and job seekers across the agriculture, construction and manufacturing sectors. The AdvancEd program offers essential and technical skills training that has been developed in partnership with local employers. This ensures the training is sector-focused, relevant, and informed by employers in Kawartha Lakes.

“Thank you to our partners for making this program possible,” said Danielle Harris, Economic Development Officer – Workforce Planning, Kawartha Lakes. “Employers have made it clear they need access to qualified, engaged, local labour to address their staffing needs. AdvancEd and our partner employers are working together to meet that demand by training existing staff, and filling entry level positions with job seekers that are willing to continue learning and are able to grow and succeed in the workplace across three of Kawartha Lakes’ key sectors.”

AdvancEd has two training streams available and is currently offering virtual information sessions for those interested in learning more.

  • Employer: We’ll work with you to enhance your staffing retention and workforce development. You can also apply for financial support to offset eligible costs to the business. Register for an information session today.
  • Job Seeker: The AdvancEd program is a six-week pre-employment training that includes a paid two-week job trial with an employer that is looking to hire. Financial supports are available to participants.
  • Incumbent (Existing) Worker: We offer training to workers who are looking to maintain long term employment or advance in the workplace and to take your career to the next level.

“As an active participant and public supporter of this program we can honestly say that both of our AdvancEd program new hires were “set up for success” upon arrival to our site.  Both have been a wonderful addition to the Kawartha Dairy Family.

“The AdvancED Job Skills Training program supported our business by allowing us to access the high quality third party safety training that is critical to our business. Given our small number of employees we would have never been able to afford to hire this type of trainer on our own. Overall, our employees found the training to be relevant and well worth the time spent in class....”

— C Burley, General Manager, Sylvite

"The [AdvancEd] Agriculture Program benefitted me with knowledge of computers, learned more about safety and safe operation of equipment and I wish I had taken the Red Cross course years ago. The workshops helped me big time along with the stipend money. Kevin Cornish from Fleming is amazing around farm equipment safety. Kelly, Deb and Melissa from VCCS are also amazing."
