Water Conservation Request - Kawartha Lakes

water drop

water dropKawartha Lakes - The City of Kawartha Lakes is asking all residents in our smaller communities that are on municipal water services, to kindly implement water conservation practices.

Residents (and summer visitors) are spending more time at home this summer resulting in greater than normal use of water. Some of our smaller groundwater systems are experiencing difficulties maintaining this increase, making it necessary to haul water to the treatment facilities to meet demand.

How Can You Help?

Water Conservation Tips:

  • Limit lawn or garden watering using sprinklers/garden hose and water on alternating days. Manual watering of gardens and flowers is a great way to cut down on water usage as is watering during the cooler parts of the day such as morning and dusk;
  • Limit washing of motor vehicles;
  • Use a broom to clean driveways, sidewalks and steps
  • Check faucets, pipes and toilets for leaks
  • Call a commercial water hauler to fill swimming pools
  • Wash clothes / dishes only when there is full load in the machine
  • Take shorter showers
  • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving

When it comes to conserving water, even small adjustments can have a big impact. Together we can conserve water and keep our water plants productive and our communities thriving and healthy.

Thank you for your co-operation.
