COVID-19 Update: In accordance with the province-wide emergency brake, the Lindsay Recreation Complex and Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre in Bobcaygeon will be closed effective Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 12:01am for a period of at least four weeks. Spring Fitness Programming scheduled to begin in April will be postponed until further notice. All drop-in fitness programming and Weight Room time blocks will be cancelled during the brake period. Memberships Update: All term memberships will be extended during the province-wide emergency brake period.  Monthly ongoing membership will be suspended during the brake period.  When operations resume, Members can reactivate their membership by e-mailing the Fitness Coordinator and monthly payments will resume. Fitness Programming has returned to the Lindsay Recreation Complex and the Forbert Memorial Pool, Bobcaygeon under strict new COVID-19 safety protocols.

The Fitness facilities at both the Lindsay Recreation Complex and Forbert Memorial Pool, Bobcaygeon will also operate under strict new COVID-19 safety protocols. Members are now required to pre-register ahead of time for their desired workout time block using our Online Program Registration website.

Fitness Programming

All participants will be required to pre-register for Fitness Programs in advance. There will no longer be a pay-as-you-go option available.

Registration for the Spring 2021 session opened online Tuesday March 16 at 9am through our Online Program Registration website.

Participants can register up to 7 days in advance of Drop In Fitness Classes. Limited space is available in each class.

Due to physical distancing, class sizes will be limited and participants will be required to adhere to specific COVID-19 Fitness Rules and Safety Protocols.

Effective August 31, 2020, an active Health Membership will be required to book Drop In Fitness Classes.

Fitness Programs/Class Schedules and Descriptions

We are pleased to offer a variety of Fitness Programs and Classes for all fitness levels and interests both at the Lindsay Recreation Complex as well at the Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre.

Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre - Drop In Fitness Classes (open to Members only)
  • Drop In Fitness Classes are not offered at the Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre.
Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre - Group Fitness Programs (open to Members and Non-Members)
  • Participants will be required to register and pay for the entire session at the time of registration.
  • Participants in these Programs will be required to register for the entire session, drop ins are not permitted.
  • All participants must pre-register for the Program online prior to start date.
  • Limited space is available in all Programs.
Trim 'N' Tone

Join this group to have continued support, as well as the assurance that there will be a Personal Trainer on hand to provide you with a new weekly exercise tip and to answer any questions you may have while you workout. Continue with the camaraderie of your classmates, knowing you'll have assistance as needed and graduate to independent workouts.

This is a Group Fitness Program; this Program is open to both Members and Non-Members.

Lindsay Recreation Complex - Drop In Fitness Classes (open to Members only)
  • Drop In Fitness Classes are open to individuals with an active Health Membership only.
  • Individuals must hold an active Health Membership in order to be able to register in a Drop In Class; these classes are not open to the general public.
  • These classes do not require registration for an entire session, but on a per class basis.
  • Drop In Classes are available for registration up to 7 days in advance of each class.
  • Members are still required to register online for these classes ahead of time and cannot just show up for a class.
  • These classes are free of charge and are included as part of the Health Membership fee.
  • Limited space is available in all classes.
Barre Fitness

A workout that combines all elements of Ballet, Barre, functional training and stretching. Moves choreographed with a ledge or chair, all to motivating music. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

Body 'N' Soul

Body 'N' Soul is a gentle class designed with fluid movements, providing cardio conditioning, muscular toning and strength; as well as, flexibility, balance and coordination training. These classes offer a complete workout to improve overall wellness and everyday function.

Cardio Sculpt

This class is an infusion of cardio and muscle conditioning to keep you and your mind moving. Tabata timing and circuits will use your body weight as well as equipment. This class is open to all fitness levels.

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga is great for people with limited mobility, who have trouble getting down to the floor and/or sitting on the floor. Yoga helps reduce stress and boosts mental clarity; as well as, helping with pain management due to aging and chronic conditions. Yoga done regularly, helps improve strength, flexibility and balance. Come and do something positive for yourself in a safe and welcoming environment.

Stretch 'N' Strength

A wonderful combination of muscle conditioning, coordination and muscle lengthening. Strengthen, tone and improve flexibility of the major muscle groups. Lean and long is the goal. This class is a great compliment to every workout regime.

Sunrise Yoga

This is a Yoga class for the early riser. This class will focus on traditional Yoga poses with an emphasis on breathing, relaxation and mediation.

Tabata

Intensity meets efficiency. This workout will ask you to push it as hard as you can for 20 second intervals with a 10 second interval in between. Generally done in 8 or 4 minutes sessions (or Tabata) this class is bound to get your heart pumping.

Trim 'N' Tone

Urban Poling

Urban Poling involves walking with specialized poles. Urban Poling can burn 20 – 46 % more calories than regular walking, while reducing the stress on your hips, knees and ankles. Walking with poles improves balance and posture. This class takes place outdoors, and starts Thursday May 6, 2021.

Huff 'N' Puff

This exercise program is open to those waiting to re-introduce, or continue gentle exercise in their life. Graduates of the Pulmonary Rehab and Cardiac Rehab class at Ross Memorial Hospital are welcome. Join our trainers for a program designed to assist in breathing techniques, chair exercises and cardiovascular machines.

Retreads Relocated

This class is specifically for those individuals who have been redirected into community programming from the Ross Memorial Hospital's 'Retreads' program. Working under the direct supervision of a Certified Trainer, participants will learn how to safely and effectively use the fitness facilities as you transition away from the Hospital program.

This is a Group Fitness Program; this Program is open to both Members and Non-Members.

Simply Strength

Not your typical group fitness! This program will teach you how to perform the fundamental movements of strength training in a safe, fun and self-paced environment. Classes are lead by Coach Ethan Kelly, a trained Powerlifting/Olympic Weightlifting Coach and Personal Trainer. Participants will learn how to perform basic barbell movements that utilize the most amount of muscle for the most effective and time sensitive results.

This is a Group Fitness Program; this Program is open Members only. An active Membership is required in order to register for this Program.

Body 'N' Soul Program

Location: Lindsay Recreation Complex - Upper Floor Fitness Studio. Please note there is elevator access to the Upper Floor Fitness Studio.

No drop in's, phone in or in-person registrations will be permitted.

Participants will be able to book 7 days in advance.

Under the guidelines for COVID-19, we have limited spacing in the Fitness Studio. To maintain the required physical distance, there will be limited spots available in each class.

We ask that you only book two times per week to give the opportunity for others to participate in the class.

Participants will be required to have an active Health Membership in order to book class times.  You can re-activate or purchase memberships over the phone by calling the Fitness Coordinator at 705-324-9411 extension 1555.

Participants will be required to wear a face mask or face covering while in the facility, but face masks or coverings can be removed once in the Fitness Studio in your designated spot for class.

Step 2: Click on 'Register' on the top tool bar

Step 3: Click on 'Drop in Fitness'

Step 4: Scroll to the program you want to join, once you find it, click 'Book'

Step 5: Click the 'Book' button to complete the registration

Step 6: Click on 'Next'

Step 7: Click on 'Checkout'

Step 8: This confirms that you have completed the registration

COVID-19 Fitness Rules and Safety Protocols

Due to physical distancing, class sizes will be limited and participants will be required to adhere to these specific COVID-19 fitness rules and safety protocols:

  • Class participants must ensure they maintain a physical distance of 3 metres from other participants and stay within their marked square or assigned bike for the duration of the fitness class.
  • Lindsay Recreation Complex Upper Fitness Change Rooms will re-open for washroom and changing only, there will be no access to showers or lockers.
  • Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre Change Rooms will be open for washroom use only.
  • Maximum capacity for Lindsay Recreation Complex Upper Change Rooms is 3 patrons at a time.
  • Maximum capacity of 8 patrons at a time will be permitted in the Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre Change Rooms.
  • Patrons must follow the directional signage throughout the facility and in the Fitness Studio/Workout Centre. Proceeding to the furthest vacant square available upon arrival to the Fitness Studio.
  • As per public health standards, all participants will be required to wear a mask or face covering while in the building (with the exception of while participating in a fitness class).
  • Lindsay Recreation Complex patrons will be required to remove outdoor footwear in pool lobby area, put on indoor footwear and proceed to the Fitness Studio via the lower floor Weight Room.
  • Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre patrons will be required to remove their outdoor footwear in the front entrance area and change into their indoor shoes prior to entering the Workout Centre.
  • Once class participants have arrived at their designated square or bike, face masks or face coverings may be removed and folded in half (keeping mouth area covered) and placed in the designated area. Once situated, participants will be provided with sanitizer to use on their hands prior to the class starting.
  • Limited equipment will be provided for aerobic classes and no yoga blocks or straps will be provided for yoga classes. Participants are encouraged to bring their own should they require them for class.
  • No spectators will be permitted. All attendees must be registered and participate in the fitness class.
  • Participants will need to arrive before the class starts or they will not be permitted to enter the class.
  • When attending Fitness Programs and Weight Room Blocks members will need to have their Membership Cards with them in order to open Weight Room doors at the Lindsay Recreation Complex.

Members and Non-Members, follow these step by step directions to register for a Group Fitness Program:

  2. Click on 'Register'.
  3. Under the Fitness & Wellness tab choose 'Group Fitness'.
  4. Select the Group Fitness Program you wish to register for.
  5. Use the date calendar to select the date you wish to attend.
  6. Click on the 'Book' button
  7. Follow all the steps through to complete your Drop In Fitness class registration. Once successfully registered, you will receive an e-mail confirming your registration. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail, please call 705-324-9112 to confirm booking.

Members, follow these step by step directions to register for multiple drop in programs:

  1. Log in to your Online Program Registration account at: https://kawarthalakes.perfectmind.com
  2. Follow the registration process by selecting, 'Register' and selecting an activity. (If you are unsure to register for a program please visit instructions above)
  3. Add the first registration to your Cart by following the prompts. Once you see the checkout screen, do not add a payment. Instead, click the 'Continue Shopping' button under the payment section. You will then be redirected back to the 'Select an Activity Screen'. Note: you will see that you have an item in your cart and that the spot is being held.
  4. Select the additional programs or drop-in's you wish to register for and once again follow the registration process.
  5. Both registration will not be visible in the checkout screen. If you would like to add more, once again click on the 'Continue Shopping' button.
  6. Once you have all of the desired program registrations in your cart, you can proceed with processing your payment for all of the registrations in your order summary.

How do I sign up for a Membership?

Memberships for both the Lindsay Recreation Complex and the Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre are available for purchase over the phone by calling 705-324-9411 extension 1555 or extension 1560 or by calling the Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre at 705-738-5858.

Memberships can also be purchased in person at the front desk of the Lindsay Recreation Complex. Please call ahead to confirm Front Desk hours of operation by calling 705-324-9112.

Payment will be required at time of registration.

Is a Membership required to use the Weight Room and Workout Centre?

Yes, an active Health or Corporate Membership is required to register for Weight Room time blocks at the Lindsay Recreation Complex and an Active Health/Fitness Membership is required to access the Workout Centre at the Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre in Bobcaygeon.

Do I have to wear a mask or face covering during a fitness classes?
As per public health standards, a mask or face coverings must be worn while in the facility, including the Change Room and Washroom areas. During fitness classes, participants will be permitted to remove their mask or face covering once they have arrived to their designated square or bike. Masks will be folded in half and placed in the designated area.

Do I have to wear a mask or face covering while in the Weight Room or Workout Centre?

As per public health standards, masks or face coverings do not have to be worn while completing an activity but must be worn in the Change Rooms, Washrooms and other areas of the Facility.

Are the Change Rooms open?

Effective October 1, 2020 the upper Fitness Change Rooms at the Lindsay Recreation Complex will re-open for washroom and changing purposes only. Showers are not available at this time.

The Change Rooms at the Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre will be open for washroom purposes only, showers and lockers will not be available.

The number of patrons permitted in the Change Rooms at a time will be limited.

Will classes take place back to back?
No, there will be time allotted after each class for thorough cleaning using products approved by Health Canada.
How many people will be allowed in the Weight Room at a time?

There will be 10 available spots for each 50 minute time block with a limit at the Lindsay Recreation Complex.

There will be 5 available spots for each 50 minute time block at the Forbert Memorial Pool Workout Centre.

Do I need to register in advance for a class or can I just drop in the day of the class?
All participants will be required to register up to 7 days in advance for their desired program. Pay-as-you-go and daily drop-ins will not be permitted at this time. All participants must be registered ahead of time and cannot just show up to participate in a class.
Can I book multiple workout blocks per day?
Members will be only permitted to book one 50 minute workout block per day.
Do I require a Membership to book and attend fitness classes?

An active Health or Corporate Membership will be required in order to book Drop In Fitness Classes.

A Membership is not required for Group Fitness program, unless otherwise stated. 

All Fitness programs require pre-registration to be completed online through our Online Program Registration website

What types of equipment will not be provided for classes?

Yoga blocks and yoga straps will not be provided and participants should bring their own if they wish to use them for the class.
How many people are able to participate in a fitness class at once?
At this time due to physical distancing guidelines, only 9 participants will be allowed per fitness class.
Can I use the washroom during a fitness class?
Change Room washrooms will be open to fitness class participants. As per public health standards a mask or face covering must be worn while in the Change Rooms, Public Washrooms and throughout the facility.
Is Personal Training available?

Personal Training is scheduled to return to the Lindsay Recreation Complex in April 2021.

When will the Forbert Workout Centre re-open?
Major capital improvements are now completed and the Forbert Memorial Pool facility in Bobcaygeon reopened Monday February 22. For details the improvements that were completed visit the Major Projects page.
Are the Squash Courts open? 
No, the Squash Courts at the Lindsay Recreation Complex remain closed until further notice.
Is there an enhanced cleaning schedule in place during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Yes, an enhanced cleaning schedule for surface touch areas has been implemented. In addition, the Weight Room and Workout Centre will be closed for periods of time during the day for deep cleaning. Please refer to the Weight Room and Workout Centre schedules for details.
How do I cancel a Weight Room booking or Drop In Fitness Class?
If you are unable to attend a time slot that has been booked for either the Weight Room, in a Drop In Fitness Class or for a Public Swim, please call either the Lindsay Recreation Complex at 705-324-9112 or the Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre at 705-738-5858 to cancel so that the spot can be opened up for another participant.

Our Workout Centres and Fitness Programs make it easy to get fit in your community. We offer a variety of Fitness Programs, Classes and Memberships for people of all ages and abilities to help you achieve your fitness and wellness goals.

Current Members

Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre Memberships:

All term memberships for the Forbert Memorial Pool will be reactivated as of February 22. Monthly ongoing membership holders will be required to contact the Fitness Coordinator prior to Tuesday, February 16 to complete the reactivation in order to be able to register online for swims and fitness classes. Members not wishing to reactivate their membership at this time are asked to contact the Fitness Coordinator by calling 705-324-9411 extension 1555 or by emailing cmcguigan@kawathalakes.ca prior to February 18.

Lindsay Recreation Complex Memberships:

Effective February 22, 2021 all term and Corporate Memberships (Health and Swim) will be re-activated, with the time missed added onto the Membership length.

Monthly ongoing membership holders will be required to contact the Fitness Coordinator prior to Tuesday, February 16 to complete the reactivation in order to be able to register online for swims and fitness classes. Members not wishing to reactivate their membership at this time are asked to contact the Fitness Coordinator by calling 705-324-9411 extension 1555 or by emailing cmcguigan@kawathalakes.ca prior to February 18.

Active Memberships will need to book the following services:

There will be no pay-as-you-go options available for these services.

Lindsay Recreation Complex Memberships

The Lindsay Recreation Complex boasts a 25 metre 6 lane pool, a small therapeutic pool, on deck sauna, Change Room facilities and showers; 2 ice pads, a variety of aquatic and land fitness programs, a fully equipped weight training/cardiovascular fitness gym, a large bright aerobics studio with a cushioned maple floor, squash courts and community room. Residents of all fitness levels and with varying recreation interests can find something to suit them at the Lindsay Recreation Complex.

Health Memberships:

Health Memberships include Swim Membership privileges, plus Weight Room/Gym access and both Drop In and Group Fitness classes/programs. HST will be added to all Membership rates.

Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre Memberships

The Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre features a three lane swimming pool and a fully equipped workout centre.  A variety of free weights, multi-station selectorized equipment, stability balls, tubing, balance boards and more are available for a full body workout. Fitness Classes are available for those wanting a group workout while burning calories.

Workout Centre Memberships:

Forbert Workout Centre Memberships will include access to the Workout Centre including use of cardio equipment, free weights and resistance equipment during regular hours of operation. HST will be added to all Membership rates.

Personal Training and Fitness Consulting

COVID-19 Update: Personal Training and Fitness Consulting is scheduled to return to the Lindsay Recreation Complex in April 2021. For questions call 705-324-9411 extension 1555 or e-mail the Fitness Coordinator.

We are pleased to offer Personal Training and Fitness Consulting as a specialized service to our Members. Whether it be booking an appointment for a one-on-one training session with a Certified Personal Trainer or a Semi-Private session; our Personal Trainers will help Members to set goals and achieve them. Personal Training is available both at the Lindsay Recreation Complex as well as the Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre in Bobcaygeon.

Personal Training and Fitness Consulting is not included in Memberships, and is offered as a specialized service only.

Through our one-on-one Personal Training sessions a skilled Personal Trainer will work with the Member to create and develop a training regime to support and help achieve personal fitness goals.

Lindsay Recreation Complex - Weight Room

The Weight Room at the Lindsay Recreation Complex re-opened on August 31, 2020 under strict new COVID-19 safety protocols.

The Weight Room is open 6 days per week with reduced hours and rotation of 'in use' equipment.

As with other services and programs, pre-registration will be required through our Online Program Registration website and an active Membership is required to book workout time blocks and for access to the Weight Room.

All Weight Room blocks will be 50 minutes in length. In addition to physical distancing guidelines, the number of Members working out will be limited.

Winter 2021 Weight Room - Hours of Operation:

Monday through Friday - 7:30am to 11:30am and 4:30pm to 8:30pm

Saturday - 10:30am to 1:30pm

Sunday - Closed

Lindsay Recreation Complex Fitness Centre Policies:

  • All exercisers must wipe down equipment down with disinfectant spray provided after each use (handles, seats, backrest, consoles etc.). Please spray paper towel first, avoid spraying into the air or directly on equipment. Discard paper towel after each use.
  • Do not use facility if you are feeling sick (fever, sore throat, cough, running nose, etc.)
  • Maintain a physical distance of 3 metres from other patrons, unless from the same household.
  • Clean, indoor footwear must be worn in all areas of the fitness facility.
  • Appropriate exercise attire must be worn at all times. No sandals, other 'open footwear', sock feet or bare feet will be permitted.
  • Patrons must wear shirts that covers the chest and abdomen.
  • No persons under the age of 16 are permitted in the Weight Room.
  • Loitering is not permitted. Please be respectful of all facility users and move fluidly from one machine to the next. Phone calls and texting are not permitted in the gym.
  • For safety reasons, when wearing earbuds; please keep your music volume low enough that you can hear people speaking to you.
  • There is a 30 minute maximum on all cardio equipment. Please be respectful of the fitness schedule posted as equipment may be reserved during these times.
  • Spotters must be used on all heavy lifts with free weights, but needs to be part of your COVID-19 specific social circle.
  • Weights should be placed, not dropped on the floor. Machines should be used in a controlled manner.
  • Members are responsible for unloading machines and returning weights to the appropriate racks when they are finished with them.
  • No food or beverage is permitted in the gym. (with the exception of water)
  • No chalk in the gym.
  • Please note, the gym is not always supervised. Adjust your workout accordingly.
  • The use of profanity or other disrespect for fellow Members of facility or Staff will not be tolerated.

Failure to abide by any of these rules may result in loss of Membership.

How to register for use of the Weight Room

Weight Room use will be limited to those with active Memberships only.

Members will be required to pre-register ahead of time for their desired workout time using our Online Program Registration website.

Members can register for sessions up to 7 days in advance and will be permitted to register for one 50 minute workout block per day. Limited space will be available.

In order to register to use the Weight Room, Members must have an account for our Online Program Registration website. For details on how to create an account, visit the Register for a Program page.

Once an account has been created, Members will be able to register for Weight Room time blocks online.

How to register online for a Weight Room session online:

1. Log in to our Online Program Registration website: https://kawarthalakes.perfectmind.com  using your e-mail address and Password.

2. Select the ‘Register’ tab and then choose ‘Drop in Fitness’ and click on 'Weight Room Drop In'.                         

3. Choose the date and time you wish to attend the Weight Room.

4. Click the 'Book' button, complete all steps to ensure completion of registration. You will receive a confirmation e-mail confirming your booked session. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail please contact us by calling 705-324-9112 to confirm your booking.

COVID-19 Weight Room Rules and Safety Protocols

Patrons will be required to required to adhere to the following COVID-19 rules and safety protocols:

  • Patrons must ensure they maintain a physical distance of 3 meters from other Weight Room users at all times.
  • Upper Fitness Change Rooms will re-open for washroom and changing only, there will be no access to showers or lockers.
  • Maximum capacity for upper Change Rooms is 3 patrons at a time.
  • As per public health standards, all participants will be required to wear a mask or face covering while attending the facility (with the exception of while working out).
  • Patrons must follow the directional signage throughout the facility and in the Weight Room.
  • Patrons will be required to remove outdoor footwear in pool lobby area, putting on indoor footwear and proceeding to the Weight Room via the lower floor Weight Room. Outdoor footwear will be placed in a pool lobby cubby or Weight Room cubby.
  • Equipment "in use" will rotate on alternating days.
  • No spectators will be permitted. All attendees must be registered and be working out.
  • All exercisers must wipe equipment down (handles, seats, backrest, consoles etc.) with provided disinfectant spray after each use.
  • Spotters must be used on all heavy lifts with free weights, but need to be part of your specific COVID-19 social circle.
  • When attending fitness classes and Weight Room blocks members will need to have their membership cards with them in order to open Weight Room doors.

The Lindsay Recreation Complex features 2 International size Squash Courts available for reservation by both Members and Non-Members. Squash Courts are available to be booked a maximum of 3 days in advance in 40 minute time increments.

Refunds, Cancellations and Service Interruptions

Refunds for programs:

We reserve the right to cancel programs due to insufficient registration. In these cases a full refund/credit will be issued. Refunds/credits for any other reason are subject to approval and a 15% (minimum $5) administration fee.  All requests must be made in writing to the program coordinator via e-mail to: recreation@kawarthalakes.ca. Refunds under $20 will be issued only as credit on account for future Parks, Recreation and Culture services.

Refunds for Drop In Programs:

Once a reservation has been made if you are unable to attend your scheduled booking please call 705-324-9112 to cancel your space. Due to limited spaces available, any fees paid will only be refunded as a credit on your account if the cancellation is received a minimum of 48 hours before the booking time. If cancellation is made with less than 48 hours notice fees are non-refundable.

Cancellations and Service Interruptions:

We will post all program cancellations as an alert on our website, on Facebook, and on Twitter. Programs will not operate on statutory holidays unless otherwise stated. For details call 705-324-9112.
