Fitness Classes

Fitness classes returned to the Lindsay Recreation Fitness Studio Monday August 10, 2020 under strict new COVID-19 safety protocols. The Fitness Studio is now open for aerobic, cycle and yoga classes.

Although the Fitness Studio has re-opened, things will be a bit different.  As of August 31, 2020 an active Health or Corporate Membership will be required to book classes.

Registration opened Monday August 3 through the Kawartha Lakes Online Registration website.

Getting Started - How to set up an account

Participants will be required to pre-register ahead of time for their desired fitness class using the Kawartha Lakes Online Registration website.

Registration will open on Monday August 3, 2020. Participants can register up to 7 days in advance and limited space will be available.

If you are a current member, you can just log in to your Online Registration account to sign up for fitness classes.

If you are a new client, you will be required to set up an account in order to register for fitness classes.

How to register for a Fitness Class online

Fitness class participants will be required to pre-register ahead of time for their desired class using the Kawartha Lakes Online Registration website.

Once an account has been created, participants will then be able to register for fitness classes online.

3. Under the 'Drop in Program' category choose 'Drop in Fitness'

4. Select the fitness class you wish to register for from the following tabs: Cycle Drop In, Fitness Class Drop In, Yoga Class Drop In

5. Use the date calendar to select the date you wish to attend

6. Click the 'Book' button

7. Follow all the steps through to complete the fitness class registration

Swimmers will be required to pre-register ahead of time for their desired swim using the Kawartha Lakes Online Registration website.

Once an account has been created, participants will then be able to register for swims.

Fitness Class Descriptions and Schedule

All participants will be required to pre-register for Fitness Classes. Drop in's will not be permitted.

Classes will take place in the Fitness Studio at the Lindsay Recreation Complex unless otherwise stated.

No classes: October 10 and 12, 2020.

Fitness Class Descriptions

Early Bird Mix:

Start your day with a workout comprised of a variety of fitness styles including hi lo, step, muscle conditioning, yoga and more. Train your muscles and cardiovascular system while having loads of fun all before you get on with your day.

Fitness Mix:

This is a workout comprised of a variety of fitness styles including hi lo, step, muscle conditioning, yoga and more. Train your muscles and cardiovascular system while having loads of fun.

Fitness with Soul:

A class designed to provide a complete body workout in a fun, soulful environment. Increase your muscle endurance, cardiovascular fitness, balance, coordination and improve your overall health. This class combines non-impact cardio exercises, upper body strengthening, core and balance training. Many variations are provided to meet the needs of all participants.

Yoga:

Gentle physical exercise including traditional yoga poses with an emphasis on breathing, relaxation and meditation are the focus of this class.

Yogahh:

Students will learn the flow of a Vinyasa style platform which calls for a slow-paced class with attention to breathing and alignment. Energizing in nature, promoting strength, balance, flexibility and peace of mind. Yogahh will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day with a renewed focus of energy.

Sunrise Yoga:

Yoga class for the early riser. Traditional Yoga poses with an emphasis on breathing, relaxation and mediation.

Yoga Flow:

This class is for all levels of experience and incorporates energetic movement through a sense of Yoga postures, with fluid physical motion. It is a practice with a balance of effort and ease.

Cycle Fit:

One of our fitness instructors will lead you on the ride of your life! Ride a specially designed stationary bike to music, on a journey to fitness like no other.

Early Bird Cycle:

Don't be late, this ride waits for no one! 45 minutes of heart pumping pedaling to get you on the way to a great day!

Cardio Sculpt:

This class is an infusion of cardio and muscle conditioning to keep you and your mind moving. Tabata timing and circuits will use your body weight as well as equipment. Open to all levels of fitness.

Stretch 'n' Strength:

A wonderful combination of muscle conditioning, coordination and muscle lengthening. Strengthen, tone and improve flexibility of the major muscle groups. Lean and long is the goal. A great compliment to every workout regime.

Play Ball:

Who said this was child's play? Stability balls, yoga balls, BOSU balls...this playground will challenge you like no other.

Zumba:

Let the rhythms take over and move your body to Latin inspired music in this fun class! Suitable for all fitness levels.

Barre Fitness:

A workout that combines all elements of Ballet, Barre, functional training and stretching. Moves choreographed with a ledge or chair, all to motivating music. Suitable for all fitness levels.

Tabata:

Intensity meets efficiency. This workout will ask you to push it as hard as you can for 20 second intervals, with a 10 second interval between. Generally done in 8 or 4 minutes sessions (or Tabata).

Core Conditioning:

Never get around to completing the core portion of your workout? Need motivation to complete those planks? Join our instructor for 45 minutes of 'core-only' to get you on the road to a solid core!

Urban Poling:

Urban Poling involves walking with specialized poles. Urban Poling can burn 20 to 46% more calories then regular walking while reducing the stress on your hips, knees and ankles. Walking with poles improves balance and posture. This class takes place outdoors.

Body 'n' Soul:

Body n Soul is a gentle class designed with fluid movements, providing cardio conditioning, muscular toning and strength, as well as, flexibility, balance and coordination training. These classes offer a complete workout to improve overall wellness and everyday function. 

Simply Strength

Not your typical group fitness! This class will teach you how to perform the fundamental movements of strength training in a safe, fun and self-paced environment.  These classes are lead by coach Ethan Kelly, a trained Powerlifting/Olympic Weightlifting coach and Personal Trainer.  Participants will learn how to perform basic barbell movements that utilize the most amount of muscle for the most effective and time sensitive results.

Huff 'n' Puff:

This exercise program is open to those waiting to re-introduce, or continue gentle exercise in their life. Graduates of the Pulmonary Rehab and Cardiac Rehab class at Ross Memorial Hospital are welcome. Join our trainers for a program designed to assist in breathing techniques, chair exercises and cardiovascular machines.  To register for this program, individuals must contact the Fitness Coordinator directly by calling 705-324-9411 extension 1555.

Retreads Relocated:

This class is specifically for those individuals who have been redirected into community programming from the Ross Memorial Hospital's 'Retreads' program.  Working under the direct supervision of a certified trainer, participants will learn how to safely and effectively use the fitness facilities as you transition away from the hospital program.

Body 'n' Soul

Body 'n' Soul is a gentle class designed with fluid movements, providing cardio conditioning, muscular toning and strength, as well as, flexibility, balance and coordination training. These classes offer a complete workout to improve overall wellness and everyday function.

Location: Lindsay Recreation Complex - Upper Floor Fitness Studio. Please note there is elevator access to the Upper Floor Fitness Studio.

No drop in's, phone in or in-person registrations will be permitted.

Participants will be able to book 7 days in advance. Registration will open starting on September 29, 2020 at 1:30pm.

Under the guidelines for COVID-19, we have limited spacing in the Fitness Studio. To maintain the required physical distance, there will be 9 spots available in each class. We ask that you only book two times per week to give the opportunity for others to participate in the class.

Participants will be required to have an active health membership in order to book class times.  You can re-activate or purchase memberships over the phone by calling the Fitness Coordinator at 705-324-9411 extension 1555.

Should participants choose to wait until January 2021 to re-activate their membership, please speak with the Fitness Coordinator on the options available to you at this time by calling 705-324-9411 extension 1555.

Participants will be required to wear a face covering while in the facility, but face coverings can be removed once in the Fitness Studio in your designated spot for class.

COVID-19 Fitness Rules and Safety Protocols

Due to physical distancing, class sizes will be limited and participants will be required to adhere to these specific COVID-19 fitness rules and safety protocols:

  • Class participants must ensure they maintain a physical distance of 2 meters or 6 feet from other participants and stay within their marked square or assigned bike for the duration of the fitness class.
  • There will be no access to change rooms or lockers. Class participants will be required to change at home prior to attending a fitness class. Effective October 1, Upper Fitness Change Rooms will re-open for washroom and changing only, there will be no access to showers or lockers.
  • Capacity numbers for the Change Rooms will increase effective October 1 from 1 person to 3 people permitted in the Change Room at one time.
  • Patrons must follow the directional signage throughout the facility and in the Fitness Studio.
  • As per public health standards, all participants will be required to wear a mask or face covering while in the building (with the exception of while participating in a fitness class).
  • Patrons will be required to remove outdoor footwear in pool lobby area, put on indoor footwear and proceed to the Fitness Studio via the lower floor Weight Room.
  • Once class participants have arrived at their designated square or bike, face masks or face coverings may be removed and folded in half (keeping mouth area covered) and placed in the designated area. Once situated, participants will be provided with sanitizer to use on their hands prior to the class starting.
  • Limited equipment will be provided for aerobic classes and no yoga blocks or straps will be provided for yoga classes. Participants are encouraged to bring their own should they require them for class.
  • No spectators will be permitted. All attendees must be registered and participate in the fitness class.
  • Effective September 28, fitness class participants will no longer be able to arrive up to 10 minutes after the class has started. Participants will need to arrive before the class starts or they will not be permitted to enter the class.
  • When attending fitness classes and Weight Room blocks members will need to have their membership cards with them in order to open Weight Room doors.
Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Do I have to wear a mask or face covering in fitness classes?

Answer: As per public health standards, a face covering does not have to be worn while completing an activity. Masks of face coverings must be worn while in the facility, including the change room and washroom areas.

 

Question: Are the Change Rooms open?

Answer: Effective October 1, the upper Fitness Change Rooms will re-open for washroom and changing purposes. Showers and lockers will not be available at this time. Change Room capacity will increase from 1 person in the Change Room at a time to 3 people at a time also as of October 1.

 

Question: Will classes take place back to back?

Answer: No, there will be time allotted after each class for thorough cleaning using products approved by Health Canada.

 

Question: Do I require a membership to book and attend fitness classes?

Answer: From August 10 to August 28, 2020, fitness classes will be free to everyone. As of August 31, 2020 an active Membership (Health or Corporate) will be required in order to book classes.

 

Question: What types of equipment will not be provided?

Answer: Yoga blocks and yoga straps will not be provided and participants should bring their own if they wish to use them for the class.

 

Question: How many people are able to participate in a fitness class?

Answer: At this time, due to physical distancing guidelines, only 9 participants will be allowed per class.

 

Question: Can I use the washroom during a fitness class?

Answer: Yes. As per public health standards a face mask or covering must be worn while in the change room area or in public washrooms.

 

Question: Is Personal Training available?

Answer: No, Personal Training has been put on hold until January 2021.

 

Question: Are the Squash courts open?

Answer: No, Squash Courts will remain closed at this time, with an anticipated re-opening in January 2021.

 

Question: How do I cancel a Weight Room booking or fitness class?

Answer: If you are unable to make a time slot that has been booked, please call 705-324-9112 to cancel so that the spot can be opened up for another member.

Lindsay Recreation Complex - Weight Room

The Weight Room at the Lindsay Recreation Complex re-opened on August 31, 2020 under strict new COVID-19 safety protocols.

The Weight Room is open 7 days per week, but with reduced hours and rotation of 'in use' equipment. As with other services, pre-registration will be required through the Kawartha Lakes Online Registration website and an active Membership will be required.

All Weight Room blocks will be 50 minutes in length. In addition to physical distancing guidelines, the number of members working out will be limited as well as equipment.

Memberships:

Effective August 31, 2020 all term and corporate memberships (health and swim) will be re-activated, with the time missed added onto your Membership time length.

Monthly on-going Memberships were stopped on March 14, 2020. To re-activate your monthly on-going Membership you will need to contact the Fitness Coordinator by calling 705-324-9411 extension 1555 to complete the activation prior to August 31, 2020 in order to be able to book Fitness Classes or workout times.

If you wish to not have your term Membership re-activated on August 31, 2020 please e-mail the Fitness Coordinator at: cmcguigan@kawarthalakes.ca to terminate your membership prior to August 24, 2020.

Active Memberships are required to book the following services:

  • Fitness Classes
  • Weight Room workout blocks

Please note: there will be no pay as you go options for these services.

Squash Memberships will not be activated at this time as the Squash Courts remain closed. If you have a Squash/Health Membership and would like to re-activate the health portion please contact the Fitness Coordinator.

Personal Training will not available until further notice.

After August 31, 2020 individuals will be able to purchase a Membership at the front desk of the Lindsay Recreation Complex or over the phone 705-324-9411 extension 1560 during business hours.

How to register to use the Weight Room

Weight Room users will be required to pre-register ahead of time for their desired workout time using the Kawartha Lakes Online Registration website.

Registration will open on Monday August 24, 2020. Users can register for sessions up to 7 days in advance. Limited space will be available.

Individuals will be permitted to register for one 50 minute workout block per day.

Once an account has been created, participants will then be able to register for Weight Room sessions online.

 

Follow these step by step directions on how to register online for a Weight Room session online:

1. Log in to the Kawartha Lakes Online Registration website: https://kawarthalakes.perfectmind.com  using your User ID and Password

2. Select ‘Register’ tab and choose ‘Drop in Fitness’ and then click on 'Weight Room Drop in'                                                                                         

3. Choose the date and time you wish to attend

4. Click the 'Book' button, complete all steps to ensure completion of registration

Effective October 5, 2020 Weight Room hours at the Lindsay Recreation Complex will change to the following:

Monday through Friday - 7:30am to 11:30am and 4:30pm to 8:30pm

Saturday - 10:30am to 1:30pm

COVID-19 Weight Room Rules and Safety Protocols

Patrons will be required to required to adhere to the following COVID-19 rules and safety protocols:

  • Patrons must ensure they maintain a physical distance of 2 meters or 6 feet from other Weight Room users at all times.
  • There will be no access to change rooms or lockers. Exercisers will be required to change at home prior to attending their workout. Effective October 1, Upper Fitness Change Rooms will re-open for washroom and changing only, there will be no access to showers or lockers.
  • Capacity numbers for the Change Rooms will increase effective October 1 from 1 person to 3 people permitted in the Change Room at one time.
  • As per public health standards, all participants will be required to wear a mask or face covering while attending the facility (with the exception of while working out).
  • Patrons must follow the directional signage throughout the facility and in the Weight Room.
  • Patrons will be required to remove outdoor footwear in pool lobby area, putting on indoor footwear and proceeding to the Weight Room via the lower floor Weight Room. Outdoor footwear will be placed in a pool lobby cubby or Weight Room cubby.
  • Equipment "in use" will rotate on alternating days.
  • No spectators will be permitted. All attendees must be registered and be working out.
  • All exercisers must wipe equipment down (handles, seats, backrest, consoles etc.) with provided disinfectant spray after each use.
  • Spotters must be used on all heavy lifts with free weights, but need to be part of your specific COVID-19 social circle.
  • When attending fitness classes and Weight Room blocks members will need to have their membership cards with them in order to open Weight Room doors.
Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Do I have to wear a mask or face covering in the Weight Room?

Answer: As per public health standards, masks or face coverings  do not have to work while completing an activity but must be work in the change rooms, washrooms or other areas of the facility.

 

Question: Is there a cleaning schedule in place?

Answer: Yes, an enhanced cleaning schedule for surface touch areas has been implements. In addition, the Weight room will be closed for deep cleaning Monday through Friday 2:30pm to 3:30pm and 8:30pm to 9:30pm as well as on Saturday and Sunday 3:30pm to 4:30pm.

 

Question: Are the Change Rooms open?

Answer: Effective October 1, the upper Fitness Change Rooms will re-open for washroom and changing purposes. Showers and lockers will not be available at this time. Change Room capacity will increase from 1 person in the Change Room at a time to 3 people at a time also as of October 1.

 

Question: Is the facility using approved cleaning products by Health Canada?

Answer: Yes, the products we were using prior to the COVID-19 pandemic are on the list of approved by Health Canada.

 

Question: How many people will be allowed in the gym at one time?

Answer: There will be 15 available spots for each 50 minute block with a limit of 10 exercisers per floor.

 

Question: Will I be able to book multiple 50 minute workout blocks per day?

Answer: No, you will only be permitted to book one 50 minute workout block per day.

 

Question: Is Personal Training available?

Answer: No, Personal Training has been put on hold until January 2021.

 

Question: Will the Fitness Studio be available for stretching when no fitness classes are running?

Answer: No, at this time the Fitness Studio is for fitness class purposes only so that cleaning and sanitizing can be complete before each class.

 

Question: Do I need a membership to use the Weight Room or can I visit on a drop in basis?

Answer: An active membership will be required to register for use of the Weight Room.

 

Question: Will Forbert Memorial Pool, Bobcaygeon Workout Centre be opening?

Answer: The Forbert Memorial Pool and Workout Centre will be undergoing significant capital improvements and will remain closed with an anticipated re-opening date in January 2021.

 

Question: I currently do not have a Membership, how do I go about obtaining one?

Answer: Memberships will be available for purchase over the phone with a credit card before August 31, 2020 by calling 705-324-9411 extension 1555 (August 10  through August 28, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm) and after August 31, 2020 individuals will be able to purchase a Membership at the front desk of the Lindsay Recreation Complex or over the phone 705-324-9411 extension 1560 during business hours.

 

Question: I currently hold a membership for the Forbert Memorial Pool, does that provide me with access to the Lindsay Recreation Complex Weight Room as well?

Answer: No, current Forbert Membership holders can transfer to a Lindsay Recreation Complex Membership if they choose to do so and will be required to pay the difference in membership costs.

 

Question: How do I cancel a Weight Room booking or fitness class?

Answer: If you are unable to make a time slot that has been booked, please call 705-324-9112 to cancel so that the spot can be opened up for another member.

Memberships

Effective August 31, 2020 all term and Corporate Memberships (health and swim) will be re-activated, with the time missed added onto the Membership length.

Monthly on-going Memberships were stopped on March 14, 2020. To re-activate your monthly ongoing Membership you will need to contact the Fitness Coordinator by calling 705-324-9411 extension 1555 to complete the activation prior to August 31 in order to book any fitness classes or workout times online.

Active Memberships will need to book the following services:

  • Fitness Classes
  • Weight Room workout blocks

There will be no pay-as-you-go options for these services.

Please be advised, Personal Training will not be available until further notice.

Squash Memberships will not be activated at this time as the Squash Courts are closed at this time/ If you have a Squash/Health Membership and would like to activate the health portion, please e-mail: cmcguigan@kawarthalakes.ca or call 705-324-9411 extension 1555.

If you wish to not have your term Membership reactivated on August 31, 2020 please email: cmcguigan@kawarthalakes.ca to terminate your Membership before August 24, 2020.

The Lindsay Recreation Complex boasts a 25 metre, 6 lane pool, a small therapeutic warm pool, saunas, change facilities and showers; 2 ice pads, a variety of aquatic and land fitness classes, a fully equipped weight training/cardiovascular fitness gym, a large bright aerobics studio with a cushioned maple floor, squash courts and community room. The Lindsay Recreation Complex features 2 International size Squash Courts available for reservation by both members and non-members.

Cost: Drop in play-as-you-go available for $8.20 plus applicable taxes per player for a maximum of two time slot bookings (40 minute time block). Racquets may be rented for $2.15 per use. Goggles and balls are available to borrow or purchase. Price subject to change. Contact Facility to confirm.

Monday through Friday 6am to 10pm

Saturday and Sunday 6am to 8pm (for Members) and facility/office hours for non-Members.

The Lindsay Recreation Complex offers a competitive squash ladder, social nights and opportunity to learn squash.

Please note any child under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.  It is mandatory for anyone under the age of 18 to wear protective eye wear. Please wear non-marking sole shoes.
