Spring 2019 Community Guide Cover

A complete list of current leisure and drop in programs can be found in the latest edition of the Kawartha Lakes Community Guide.

A number of our drop in programs allow for you to drop in for an activity when you have time with no pre-registration required.

Spring 2019 Program Registration begins online Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 9:00am

In person registration begins Monday, March 4, 2019 at 8:30am at the Parks, Recreation and Culture Administration Office located at 50 Wolfe Street, Lindsay.

Leisure Programs:

Badminton -  Drop In Program

Drop in for some fun and exercise playing recreational badminton. All levels of play are welcome in this relaxed environment. Six courts are available for play on the main floor of the Victoria Park Armoury, Lindsay.

Shuttles are provided. Participants are asked to bring clean indoor athletic shoes and a badminton racquet.

Instruction is not provided for this drop in program.

Occasional cancellations happen. Calendars are available by contacting a Community Development Coordinator.

Winter 2019 Program:

Tuesdays 10:30am - 12:00pm (January 8, 2019 - April 2, 2019)

Wednesdays 7:30pm - 9:00pm  (January 2, 2019 - April 3, 2019)

Cost: $4.50 per person/day


Spring 2019 Program:

Tuesdays 10:30am - 12:00pm (April 2 - May 14, 2019)

Lava Bead Bracelet Making - March Break Parent/Child Session

Susan Melnick from 'Just Enough' Bling will teach you how to make your own Lava Bead and natural gemstone bracelet.

Youth 7-15 years of age can join an adult/parent during this March Break class where Susan will help you either make a bracelet or bookmark with your child.

Porch Welcome Sign Workshop

Join Robyn Barton of Signs and Wine Workshops for a session of sign making (sorry, no wine) and refreshments.  Enjoy an evening of fun and creativity and take home a masterpiece to display. Supplies included in fee.

Intro to Reiki Therapy - Winter Wellness Lecture/Presentation Series

Ever wonder exactly what Reiki is? Where it came from? What it is used for? Join Reiki Master Vicki Bruce for a learning session and some demonstrations on how Reiki can relieve stress, and bring you from disease to ease by balancing your Chakras and focussing on your 7 energy centres.

Meditation and Self Reflection Practices - Winter Wellness Lecture/Presentation Series

Join local wellness professional Alyssa Huntley for 2 sessions designed to help you become more self aware and decrease negative thinking.  Alyssa offers an in-depth informative and experiential session, exploring meditation and self-reflection.

Speaking in a class-based circle format, she'll discuss with you the misconceptions of mediation; you'll explore and experience different types of meditation , and feel out which method suits you best.

Sessions will cover:

  • breathing meditation
  • loving kindness meditation
  • mantra meditation
  • specific healing mediation (based in Neuro-Linguistic Programming)

Taking part in both sessions with Alyssa is recommended to get the most benefit.

Winter 2019 Session:

Date: Thursday, February 28 & Thursday March 7, 2019

Time: 7:00pm-8:00pm

Cost: $100.00 + HST per person (for both sessions)

Senior Men's Slo-Pitch (Ages 55+)

This recreational level softball is for men ages 55+ interested in 'slo-pitch' for fun and exercise.  This friendly, non-competitive league drafts balanced teams annually.

New players are welcome and may register any time through the season by contacting the Covenor.

Spring/Summer 2019 Session:

Registration begins at 9:30am on Monday, May 13 at Wilson Fields, Lindsay in the Diamond 2 Shelter.

Date: Mondays May 13 - September 9, 2019

Time: 10:00am

Cost: $60.00

Fees will incloude SPO insurance, a team jersey, bats and balls.  Players must provide their own glove and athletic shoes.

Note: there will be no games on holiday Mondays, but will play the Tuesday following.

Photography - Introduction to Digital SLR Camera

Digital Camera technology can be overwhelming. This hands on, comprehensive introduction to digital photography will teach you how to properly use your 'digital single lens reflex (SLR)' camera and improve your pictures.  In this program you will learn:

  • All aspects of your camera's operation and internal settings
  • Proper digital workflow
  • Obtaining proper exposure
  • Which lens to use in various situations
  • How to use your flash properly
  • Shot composition
  • Tips and Tricks

Participants will need to provide their own camera.

Spring 2019 Session:

Date: April 4 - May 23, 2019

Time: 7:00pm-9:00pm

Cost: $120.00 + HST per person

Location: Lindsay Recreation Complex - Community Room

Special Events:

2019 Lindsay Milk Run/KL21K Half Marathon

2019 marks the 41st Annual Lindsay Milk Run and the 3rd annual KL21K Half Marathon hosted in partnership with Jamie Schmale, MP Haliburton- Kawartha Lakes - Brock.

This annual event will feature a 5K, 10K and 21K division.

2019 Concerts in the Park

2019 marks the 28th anniversary of our annual summer Concerts in the Park series.

Concerts in the Park provides community members with free outdoor concerts during the summer months. These family oriented concerts provide an opportunity to develop community spirit while enjoying and supporting local musicians.

All concerts take place at the Frank Banks Gazebo in Victoria Park, downtown Lindsay. Concerts are on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm-9:00pm and Sunday afternoons from 2:00pm-4:00pm between July 3 and August 28, 2019.

Lindsay Recreation Complex - Indoor Triathlon

Come out and get the triathlon season started! Participants will have 15 minutes for each discipline with a 10 minute transition between swim and bike.  Once complete the Triathlon participants are invited to the Community Room to pick up their finisher shirt and smoothie.

Time: 8:00am-12:00pm

Cost: $60.00 Non-Members and $50.00 Members

All participants will receive a free long sleeved technical tee as well as an 8oz protein Smoothie courtesy of Fresh Fuell.
