Leisure Programs and Events

Whether we try something new, become more active, or simply get outside for a breath of fresh air, taking the time to connect with our body on a daily basis empowers ourSelf. The Community Guide is a great resource to spark a plan for a better connection.

Our Summer 2024 Kawartha Lakes Community Guide highlights a variety of waterfront, aquatic, fitness and leisure programs, along with information regarding our ORCKA, guided paddle and summer day camp programs. This digital publication also includes details on our parks, trails, forest tracts, beaches, boat launches and upcoming events, such as the 2024 Lindsay Milk Run and Concerts in the Park series.

Kawartha Lakes Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer a variety of leisure and drop in programs to suit a variety of interests as well as various special events throughout the year. Women's 55+ Slo Pitch - Wilson Fields

New! Join us Wednesday mornings and swing for the fences! This friendly, recreational, Slo Pitch program welcomes women 55+ with all levels of experience. Starting in July, the program will run for 10 weeks of fun and exercise. Fees
include NSA insurance, bats, and balls; players provide their own glove and athletic shoes.

Guided Paddle

Join us and get out on the water to truly experience Kawartha Lakes! From various launch points, our instructors will guide paddlers across Kawartha’s many rivers and lakes, while highlighting points of interest along the way. All equipment is included, canoes and kayaks (with accompanying safety equipment) are available. Previous paddling experience is recommended.

Safe Canoeing

Never been in a canoe before? This three hour ORCKA program is for first-time paddlers looking for an introduction to basic canoeing skills and safety. By the end of the session, paddlers will have the skills and knowledge to enjoy recreational paddling with a partner.

ORCKA Basic Canoeing - Level 1 (Tandem)

This program is an introduction to canoeing, where paddlers will learn safe canoeing procedures and become comfortable paddling in a tandem canoe. This half-day course will focus on canoe safety, equipment knowledge and care, and a variety of canoeing skills, including pivots, stopping, lifts and carries, and much more! There are no canoeing prerequisites for this course. Upon successful completion, paddlers will earn an ORCKA canoeing level that is recognized throughout Ontario and Canada.

ORCKA Basic Canoeing - Level 1 and 2 (Tandem)

This full-day program provides an introduction to canoeing and builds on paddlers’ skills to refine their paddling techniques. Paddlers will be introduced to canoe safety, equipment knowledge and care, and a variety of canoeing skills, including how to rescue your self and others, on-water position switch, and more! Upon successful completion, paddlers will earn two respective ORCKA canoeing levels that are recognized throughout Ontario and Canada.

How to Register for a Leisure Program

All participants in all of our leisure programs will be required to register through our Online Program Registration website. Pre-registration is required for all programs, with the exception being for drop-in programs. In-person and telephone registration is not available.

New Clients

In order to register online for any of our leisure programs new clients will be required to create an account for our Online Program Registration website.

How to set up an account

To get started visit our Online Program Registration website at: https://kawarthalakes.perfectmind.com

For the best registration experience, please use Google Chrome or Firefox.  Using other browsers may produce unexpected results.

Steps on how to create an account:

1. Click on the 'Create an Account' button at the bottom of the login box.

2. Once all fields have been completed, click the 'Become Member' button at the bottom. You will receive a new temporary password by e-mail.

 

3. After clicking the 'Become Member' button, a new screen will open. On this screen you can edit your account information and add family members to your account. Family members must be listed under your account in order for you to register them for a program.

Add all family member information so that your account is up to date.

Once the family is updated, click on your name in the top right corner to log out and exit the web browser.

4. Check your e-mail and look for an e-mail from us. Click on the link in the e-mail and use the username and password provided in that e-mail to log in.

5. When you log in using the username and password that was e-mailed to you, users will then be asked to reset their password.

Choose a password that is familiar to you so that you will remember it the next time you log in.

Once you click the 'Save' button, a notification will appear that your password has been successfully changed.  Then log in using your username and updated password.

How to register for a Leisure Program online

Once an account has been created, you will now be able to register for all Leisure, Fitness and Aquatics programs online through our Online Program Registration website.

How to register for a Leisure Program online:

1. Log in to our Online Program Registration website at: https://kawarthalakes.perfectmind.com using your username (e-mail) and password.

2. Once logged in, you will be required to Select an Activity. Under the 'Leisure Programs' category, select the appropriate program category for the program that you wish to register for.

Alternatively, you can also use the search bar function on the top right corner and search for the program by name or by program barcode.

3. Under the program category, find the program you wish to register for and click on the 'Show courses' down arrow to expand and view the available courses for the program.

4. Once you have found your desired program that you wish to register for, click the 'Book' button.

5. The next screen will ask who you would like to book for the program. Select the individual you wish to register for the program and then click 'Next' button.

If you do not see the individual you wish to register, you can click the '+' button to Add Family Member.

6. Depending on the program, if you are required to complete any mandatory forms such as a Par-Q form prior to registering they will now appear automatically on this screen.

Answer all required questions and click the 'Next' button.

If your program does not require any additional forms to be completed you will not see this screen. Not all programs will require forms to be completed, if they do not appear automatically no additional forms are required at this time.

7.  Review the information on the Cart Summary page to ensure that the all of information is correct and that you are registering for the correct desired program.

If the information is not correct, click on the 'Modify Booking' button to make the appropriate changes.

If you wish to add/register for additional programs, click on the 'Book another event' button.

If all of the information is correct, click on the 'Checkout' button to proceed to the checkout.

8. You will now be required to enter your payment method (credit card required). Enter your card information, including the billing address information associated with your card.

Review your order summary and click on the 'Place My Order' button to make a payment and complete the registration for the program.

9. You will wait for a confirmation screen to appear confirming you have been successfully registered for the program. You will now receive a confirmation e-mail to confirm your registration as well as a copy of your receipt.

Existing Clients

Once registration is open for the session, existing clients can simply visit our Online Program Registration website at: https://kawarthalakes.perfectmind.com to register for all Programs.

Forget your account password?

1. Visit our Online Program Registration website and click on 'Forgot your password?' at the bottom of the screen.

Leisure Program Instructor Opportunities

The Parks and Recreation Division is seeking qualified individuals to lead Leisure Programming opportunities within the community on a contract basis.

Qualified instructors are always needed for new Leisure Program opportunities. Interested individuals with skills in the areas of either, leadership and personal development, health and wellness, arts and culture or sports and recreation are encouraged to complete a Leisure Program Proposal Form.

Waterfront Programming Instructors

We are currently is seeking Waterfront Programming Instructors to lead kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding programming. Equipment for instruction will be provided.

How to add your Club/Organization to the Community Sports and Leisure Directory

The Community Sports and Leisure Directory is to act as a resource piece for individuals seeking sports and leisure programming opportunities with Kawartha Lakes. Organizations wishing to be included in the Community Sports and Leisure Directory must meet specific criteria in order to be included.

The Parks and Recreation Division reserves the right to omit or remove any Directory listing at any time without notice. Inclusion in the Directory is at the discretion of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Division.

Listings in the Community Sports and Leisure Directory are free of charge. Inclusion in the Directory does not mean that the municipality endorses, supports or partners with the group or organization in any way.

Special Events

The Kawartha Lakes Parks and Recreation Division offers special events throughout the year as well as annual events.

Lindsay Milk Run

The Parks and Recreation Division has been the proud host of the Lindsay Milk Run for over 40 years. This event is an annual 5K and 10K run that takes place in Lindsay every July.

2020 will mark the 42nd Annual Lindsay Milk Run and the 4th annual KL21K Half Marathon hosted in partnership with Jamie Schmale, MP Haliburton- Kawartha Lakes - Brock.

This annual event will feature a 5K, 10K and 21K division.

Concerts in the Park

The Parks and Recreation Division has been offering the annual Concerts in the Park Series for over 30 years. The Concerts in the Park series provides community members with free outdoor concerts during the summer months. These family oriented concerts provide an opportunity to develop community spirit while enjoying and supporting local musicians.

All concerts take place at the Frank Banks Gazebo in Victoria Park, downtown Lindsay. Concerts are on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm and Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm during July and August.

Refunds, Cancellations and Service Interruptions

Refunds for programs:

We reserve the right to cancel programs due to insufficient registration. In these cases a full refund/credit will be issued. Refunds/credits for any other reason are subject to approval and a 15% (minimum $5) administration fee.  All requests must be made in writing to the program coordinator via e-mail to: recreation@kawarthalakes.ca. Refunds under $20 will be issued only as credit on account for future Parks and Recreation services.

Cancellations and Service Interruptions:

We will post all program cancellations as an alert on our website, on Facebook, and on X (formerly Twitter). Programs will not operate on statutory holidays unless otherwise stated.

Advertised swims may be cancelled for special bookings. All changes to the regular schedule will be posted two weeks in advance.
