Public Skating

Public Skating opportunities include Public Skating, Shinny, Parent & Tot Skate, Ticket Ice, Stick and Puck and Seniors Skate programs.

Pre-registration is recommended for all Public Skating programs, participants can register for their desired skate up to 14 days in advance, limited space is available in each program.

How to register online for a Public Skate Program

In order to register for a Public Skating program, existing clients can log into their account through our Online Program Registration website: https://kawarthalakes.perfectmind.com 

New clients to the Online Registration website will be required to first create an account. For details on how to create an account, visit the Register for a program page.

How to register online for a Public Skating Program:

Step 1 - Register: Select an Activity

After logging into the Online Program Registration website, select the 'Register' tab at the top of the screen.

Next, under the Drop in Program tab, select the 'Public Skating' option.

Step 2 - Public Skating/Shinny: Book your spot

Once in the Public Skating tab, select the date and time you wish to attend Public Skating and click on the 'Book' button.

Step 3 - Book: Finalize booking and payment

After selecting the 'Book' button from the previous window, you will be prompted to review your selection, then click on the 'Book' button again, select the attendee you wish to register for the skate and make payment.

Public Skating Admission Fees

Participants will be able to register for their desired Public Skate up to 14 days in advance through our Online Program Registration website.

Skating Ten Passes

Purchase a Skating Ten Pass and get ten admissions for the price of nine. Skating Ten Passes can be purchased online and applied towards skating programs (Public Skating, Ticket Ice, Stick & Puck and Shinny).

How to purchase a Skating Ten Pass Online

Skating Ten Passes must be purchased online and get applied directly to your Online Program Registration account.

The purchased Ten Pass will show on your account with the number of sessions remaining. Sessions will be removed when you attend an applicable skate.

Accessible Skate

This recreational skate is open to skaters with disabilities and their families, caregivers, and/or support workers. Accompanying caregivers or support persons skate free of charge. Skaters are expected to follow the general Public Skate program rules. Wheelchairs, skate aids, sledges, and other mobility devices are welcome.

Participants will be able to register for their desired skate up to 14 days in advance, limited space will be available in each program. Pre-registration is recommended through our Online Program Registration website to guarantee your spot!

Parent and Tot Skating

This special skating time is specifically for pre-schoolers and their parents, skate aids will be provided. Tots must wear a CSA approved helmet. Pre-registration is required for all Parent & Tot skating programs.

Participants will be able to register for their desired skate up to 14 days in advance, limited space will be available in each program. Registration takes place exclusively through our Online Program Registration website.

Senior Skate

Our Senior Skate offers a leisure skate time specifically for mature adults. Pre-registration is required for all Senior Skate programs.

Participants will be able to register for their desired  Public Skate up to 14 days in advance through our Online Program Registration website. Participants are encouraged to pre-register to reserve a public skate in advance, walk in reservations and payment will be accepted on site when space allows.

Shinny Hockey

Stay active with our drop-in Shinny! This non-contact, co-ed program is not intended for organized teams. A CSA-approved helmet is mandatory and full equipment is highly encouraged. Pre-registration is recommended for all Shinny programs.

Senior Shinny Hockey

This self-organized, non-contact hockey program is intended for players 55 years of age and older. A CSA approved helmet is mandatory; mask and full equipment is highly encouraged.

Women's Shinny

This non-contact, self-organized drop-in program is not intended for organized teams. Full equipment and a CSA approved helmet are required.

The municipality expects all participants respect all bodies, boundaries, capacities, experiences, feelings, identities, names, pronouns and spaces. The above mention of gender reference the lived experiences of the players and, as such includes transgender and transitioning people. The municipality welcomes and encourages our patrons to apply for program accordingly. The municipality affirms the rights of our patrons to use the Change Room and washroom facilities accordingly. Contact the Parks and Recreation Division for any accommodation requests.

Effective October 20, 2023 we have made an update to the registration process for all Shinny programs. There will now be 2 respective Shinny programs for registration, a 'Shinny-Players' which is intended for players to register and make payment and a 'Shinny-Goalies' which is intended for goaltenders to register and make payment. Each Shinny-Goalie program only has 2 respective spots to register weekly and it will indicate the number of spots available for goalies during the registration process. This update is intended to provide insight into how many goaltenders are registered for each session and to help players plan accordingly prior to registering for their date of choice.

Stick and Puck

Stick and Puck is an opportunity for adults to help children practice and develop skating, stick handling and passing skills in a non-competitive environment. All participants are required to wear a CSA approved helmet. Instruction is not provided. Maximum of 2 children per adult.

Stick and Puck Rules

Stick and Puck rules must be followed at all times, failure to follow rules may result in being asked to leave the facility with no refund.

  • The Stick & Puck program is intended for children ages 3 to 12 with a caregiver accompanying them on ice who is 18 years of age or older
  • There is a maximum of 2 children per caregiver
  • Children must be accompanied and supervised on the ice at all times by the adult caregiver
  • Slap shots, wrist shots or any form of aggressive play are not permitted
  • CSA approved helmets are mandatory for all participants. Face cages are strongly recommended for children
  • Gloves and elbow pads are strongly recommended

Registration takes place through our Online Program Registration website.

New for fall 2023, only the adult is required to register and pay the group fee when registering online. The names of the children attending the program are to be listed in the registration questionnaire. Each family/group is to register once, using the adult's name, for up to three skaters (1 adult, maximum 2 children). Children do not need to register nor make payment.

Ticket Ice

Ticket Ice is a drop in session for recreational Figure Skaters to practice individual skating skills. Skaters must be a CFSA member and be accompanied by a Coach.

Pre-registration is now required for Ticket Ice.

Free Sponsored Public Skates

Join us for a sponsored free public skate courtesy of our wonderful community partners. Please note, pre-registration for all Public Skating is strongly recommended.

Participants are be able to register for their desired skate up to 14 days in advance, limited space will be available in each program. Registration takes place through our Online Program Registration website. Please e-mail the Parks and Recreation Division if you require other options.

Public Skating Rules

  • Pre-registration is recommended for all public skating programs
  • All participants must be wearing skates while on the ice surface
  • CSA approved helmets are mandatory for all children and strongly recommended for all other ice users
  • Participants must skate in the same direction as all skaters
  • Skate aids may be available for use at the facility. Participants may bring their own certified skate aid, as long as it’s in clean condition and does not impede other skaters
  • Wheelchairs are permitted, with the accompaniment of a responsible operator (age 16 or older) wearing ice skates
    • Wheelchair wheels must be cleaned of any dirt/debris prior to entering the ice surface. Cleaning materials will be available at facility
    • The person accompanying the participant in the wheelchair is not required to register or pay the registration fee
    • Wheelchair users are asked to use the perimeter of the ice closest to the boards
  • No food or drink is allowed on the ice surface or players benches
  • No tag, games, or inappropriate behaviour is allowed
  • No skating backwards or figure skating
  • Any equipment (including balls, sticks, chairs, pylons, strollers) that may interfere with the safety of any skater on the ice surface is prohibited
  • No headsets, cell phones, or handheld electronic devices are to be used while skating
  • Carrying of children is prohibited
  • No sitting on the boards

Those not following the rules will be given one warning and then asked to leave the facility with no refund. Rules are subject to change.

Private Ice Rentals

We operate 9 artificial ice surfaces in 7 Arenas. All of our Arenas are single pad except for the Lindsay Recreation Complex which has two ice surfaces. We have ice surfaces available for rent all year long and from April to August ice pads are also available to rent for non-ice events such as lacrosse, floor hockey and large special events.

Complete the online Facility Booking Request Form. Upon completion of the Facility Booking Request Form, you will receive confirmation of your request from a representative of the Facility Booking Office within two (2) business days.

Please note, rental requests received outside of our regular office hours (Monday-Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm) or during holidays will be processed in sequence of requests received upon the office reopening. Please note, a completed Request Form is not considered a booking.
