Fenelon Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant Spill Event - November 10, 2025
Kawartha Lakes – Due to a mechanical failure at the Fenelon Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant on Ellice Street in Fenelon Falls, a spill of partially treated sewage occurred, releasing material into a nearby ditch. The spill was stopped on Monday, November 10 at 9:15am, and clean-up efforts are underway.
The affected ditch outlets to the Fenelon River in the area of Riverview Road (off Wychwood Crescent). As a precaution, residents drawing water from the Fenelon River downstream of Riverview Road are advised to properly filter and disinfect their water before use.
The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District (HKPR) Health Unit recommends that residents who draw water from the river in this area use an appropriate filtration and disinfection system before consuming the water. Surface water can contain viruses, bacteria, or parasites that may cause illness, and it should always be properly treated before drinking or use.
Homes and businesses connected to municipal water from the Fenelon Falls Drinking Water System are not affected and their water continues to be safe to drink.
