Boil Water Advisory issued for Pinewood Drinking Water System in Pontypool

Update Issued: Tuesday November 26, 2024

The Boil Water Advisory (BWA) for the Pinewood Drinking Water System (DWS) remains in place.

In order for the BWA to be rescinded, two consecutive water samples taken from the system 24 to 48 hours apart must come back clean. The first sample was taken late on the night of November 24, results are expected some time today. The second sample was taken this morning and results are expected on Wednesday. The results will be sent to the Health Unit and they will determine if the BWA should be lifted or not.

This BWA was a precautionary measure taken to make sure that the equipment failure at the Pinewood DWS did not cause issues with the drinking water. While we recognize that this is an inconvenience for impacted residents, these measures are put in place to protect your health and safety. Thank you for your continued patience as we work through the process.

Reminder: Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is monitoring the water quality incident. You will be notified when the problem is resolved.

Date: Monday November 25, 2024

The Medical Officer of Health has directed the City of Kawartha Lakes to issue a Drinking Water Advisory on November 24, 2024 due to a power loss and generator issue at the Water Treatment facility. Notices have been hand delivered to residents.

This tap water can make you ill. The elderly, the very young and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk.

A boil water advisory requires all water used for cooking or drinking to be brought to a rolling boil and boiled for at least one minute prior to use. A safe alternative to using boiled water is using bottled water or water from a private well that has been tested.

The boil water advisory remains in effect until it is lifted by the Medical Officer of Health or a Public Health Inspector. You will be notified when the problem is resolved.

Until then, Please boil your water at a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it to:

  • Drink
  • Gargle, brush your teeth or rinse dentures
  • Wash fruits, vegetables and other food
  • Make ice, juices, puddings or other mixes
  • Make baby food or formula

Bathing and washing:

  • Adults, teens and older children can use non-boiled water for baths and showers
  • Small children can be given sponge-baths instead of tub baths or showers
  • Do not swallow any non-boiled water used for showers and baths
  • For instructions on washing dishes, see “How to Use Water Safely during a Boil Water Advisory” fact sheet

If you are sick:

  • Get immediate medical help for the elderly, young and those with weakened immune systems
  • Get medical help if diarrhea lasts more than 48 hours
