Kawartha Lakes is getting ready to launch applications for the 2026 Summer Company program, and you’re a local student, you’re invited to step up, start something bold, and become your own boss.

If you’re returning to school in Fall 2026 and ready to challenge yourself, this could be your summer.

What is Summer Company?

Summer Company is a program delivered by the Kawartha Lakes Small Business Centre in partnership with the Province of Ontario. It helps students turn a business idea into a real plan, then launch and operate their own business. While their business is running, they will earn income over the summer as well as learn practical business and life skills.

This is not a just a “how to” course. This summer, you could actually run your own business.

What kind of businesses?

  • Photography
  • Tech help or social media services

The Program:

  • Eligible students receive:
  • Up to $3,000 in grant funding
  • Business training before you launch

  • Find customers
  • Deliver great customer service
  • Solve real-world problems

These are skills that look great on resumes and for post-secondary applications.

What are the benefits of doing the Summer Company program?

Instead of working a typical summer job, you could:
