Eric Smeaton resigns as Ward 5 Councillor for the City of Kawartha Lakes

Kawartha Lakes – Kawartha Lakes Ward 5 Councillor, Eric Smeaton, has announced his resignation, effective November 1, 2024.

In a letter to Mayor Elmslie and the City Clerk, Smeaton indicated that he is resigning due to unforeseen health and personal reasons, noting, “I have enjoyed my work as a City Councillor, serving Ward 5 to the best of my abilities. I am grateful for the support from, and collaboration with, the Mayor and Council colleagues.”

Mayor Elmslie noted, “I thank Eric for his service over the past two years, and wish him the very best.”

The seat will be declared vacant at the next Regular Council meeting on November 19, 2024. Council will receive a report from the City Clerk with options to consider for the vacated seat.

Constituents of Ward 5 can receive information or support in the following ways:

  1. Call or visit Customer Service at 705-324-9411 from Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. The Lindsay Service Centre is located at 26 Francis St, Lindsay, at City Hall.
