Flags to be lowered in honour of Canadian National Firefighter Memorial Day on September 8, 2024

Kawartha Lakes – Every year on the second Sunday in September, the municipality takes a moment to acknowledge and reflect on Canadian National Firefighter Memorial Day. This day is about honouring and remembering our fallen heroes and reminding their families of the community of support that continues to exists around them.

The flags at municipal buildings will be lowered on September 6, and they will remain lowered throughout the weekend for Canadian National Firefighter Memorial Day on Sunday September 8, 2024.

This day is not just about remembering those we’ve lost, it’s also a reminder of the dangers that come with being a firefighter and the courage that it takes for firefighters to regularly put their lives on the line for the people in their community.

“On National Firefighter Memorial Day we remember and honour firefighters that have tragically lost their lives while on duty,” said Chief Terry Jones, Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Services. “It takes a special kind of person to be willing to put their life on the line each day to protect their community. Thank you to the firefighters of Kawartha Lakes for all that you do and deepest condolences to any family or fire service that has lost a hero in the line of duty.”
