Flags to be lowered this weekend in honour of Canadian National Firefighter Memorial Day 2025

Kawartha Lakes – Every year on the second Sunday in September, the municipality takes a moment to acknowledge and reflect on Canadian National Firefighter Memorial Day. This day is about honouring and remembering our fallen heroes and reminding their families that the sacrifices of their loved ones are not forgotten.

The flags at municipal buildings will be lowered lowered throughout the weekend for Canadian National Firefighter Memorial Day on Sunday September 14.

This day is not just about remembering those we’ve lost, it’s also a reminder of the dangers that come with being a firefighter and the courage that it takes for firefighters to regularly put their lives on the line for the people in their community.

“On National Firefighter Memorial Day we mourn and honour firefighters that have lost their lives in the line of duty,” said Chief Terry Jones, Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service. “It takes courage and selflessness to be a firefighter. On any given day they may have to put their lives on the line to protect the people in their communities. Firefighters do so willingly and without hesitation, for that, we thank them for having the courage to act and for all of the sacrifices they make to keep our communities safe.”
