Water levels remain high across Kawartha Lakes, with more rain expected

Flood conditions and outlook for the weekend of April 17-19, 2026

Kawartha Lakes – Water levels remain high across Kawartha Lakes after recent rain and snow melting, with more rain expected this weekend.  

Rivers, lakes, and low-lying areas are still experiencing elevated water levels, and some areas are seeing road closures and shoreline flooding. Residents are asked to use caution near water, stay informed, and follow all posted safety notices.

Updates from Kawartha Conservation 

Kawartha Conservation has issued the following notices: 

 

Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety - in effect Friday, April 17 to Tuesday, April 21 

 

Flood Warning – Lake Shoreline Notice - in effect Monday, April 13 to Tuesday, April 21 

These notices apply to the shoreline areas along: 

  • Balsam Lake 

  • Cameron Lake 

  • Sturgeon Lake 

  • Pigeon Lake 

  • Lake Scugog 

  • Crystal Lake 

Road closures 

More than 20 municipal roads are currently experiencing flooding or water over the road.  

You can view all closures on Municipal511. Crews are checking roads daily, and roads will reopen when safe.

 

Sandbag information 

Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue and Public Works have provided free sandbags at the following locations:  

Fill-your-own sandbags (bring a shovel)  

  • Dalton Community Centre (13 Rumohr Drive, Sebright)

  • Dunsford Community Centre (26 Community Centre Rd, Dunsford)

  • Chisholm Trail (South of Black River Road near Amon Drive) 
  • Ward Park Norland Community Centre (7675 Highway 35 North, Norland) 

Pre-filled sandbags 

  • Burnt River Somerville Community Centre (16 Somerville Centre Road, Burnt River) 

  • Coboconk Lions Park (6699 Highway 35, Coboconk) 

Supplies are first-come, first-served. Please only take what you need. Updates on supply levels will be posted to the Emergency Management page.

 

What you should do 

Residents, especially those in flood-prone areas, should: 

  • Move important items to higher ground

  • Make sure sump pumps are working  

  • Clear drains and eavestroughs  

  • Check on neighbours who may need help  

  • Stay up to date on local alerts  

Safety around water 

  • Stay away from fast-moving water, rivers, and flooded areas  

  • Keep children and pets away from shorelines  

  • Follow all road closure signs  

  • Never drive through flooded roads  

Municipal staff and emergency services are watching conditions closely and will respond as needed.
