Join the conversation on the future of waste management in Kawartha Lakes

Kawartha Lakes – Kawartha Lakes is updating our Integrated Waste Management Strategy to help us plan and manage our waste. As our municipality grows, it’s important that we have a strategy in place to manage waste in a way that is good for the environment and for our budget.

The strategy will develop actions that our residents, businesses, institutions, community groups, and the municipality can take to divert more waste away from our landfills by doing things like:

This project will update our Making Waste Matter – Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2020 to 2024 plan. Many of the action items in the 2020 to 2024 strategy were accomplished with your support. Some of the initiatives and programs launched from the last plan include:

  • Woodchip Mulch giveaway program
  • Paint Reuse program
  • Mattress Recycling program
  • Bulky Plastic Recycling program
  • Leaf and yard waste collection
  • Textile recycling
  • Round Up Day events
  • Recycle Coach App

We’re excited for the opportunity to work together with our community to build off of the success of these programs with our new 2025 to 2029 plan.

We need your input

Since reducing waste is a joint effort between the municipality and you. We need to hear from you about what is working well and what we can improve on to manage our waste and continue diverting it from our landfills.

Jump In to take the survey that’ll help us shape the future of waste management in Kawartha Lakes.

We’ll also be hosting public meetings in the near future. At the meetings, you’ll be able to join us in-person to provide the project team with your comments, questions and feedback. When the meetings have been booked, we’ll share the invitations through our news room and on our social media platforms.

Your voice matters! Don't miss this opportunity to help us grow and improve our waste management program in Kawartha Lakes.
