Kawartha Lakes – The municipality and the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes (HSKL) are pleased to announce a new agreement for kennel services effective April 21, 2025.

Since 1986, the HSKL has been a cornerstone of animal care in Kawartha Lakes, dedicated to supporting people and pets in need. Their passionate staff and volunteers provide exceptional care; ensuring animals receive the medical attention, compassion, and support necessary to help them be returned to their owners or find new, loving homes.

The municipality extends sincere thanks to HSKL for their continued service and vital partnership in providing pound services across the municipality.

The newly signed agreement includes:

  • Kennel and Pound Services: HSKL will provide care for animals found at-large or dropped off by residents who have located a lost domestic pet.
  • Feral Cat TNR Program: The Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) pilot project for feral cats will resume and continue through the end of 2025.
  • Joint Educational Programs: Collaborative efforts to promote responsible pet ownership through public education and information sharing.
  • Rehoming and Reuniting Efforts: HSKL will continue connecting lost animals with their owners or finding new homes when necessary.

Together, we envision a community where all animals enjoy a good quality of life with responsible, informed, and caring owners—free from abuse, neglect, and ignorance.
