Kawartha Lakes City Hall to light up in blue for Big Brothers Big Sisters Month
Kawartha Lakes – September is officially Big Brothers Big Sisters Month and Kawartha Lakes will proudly show its support by illuminating City Hall in blue lights starting Wednesday September 18.
"September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month, and on the 18th, we will shine a light on the crucial work of this outstanding organization by lighting City Hall in blue. Across Canada, Big Brothers Big Sisters has positively impacted over 40,000 youth, with volunteers contributing 2.2 million hours each year to mentor children facing societal barriers and adversity. We are proud to have the Kawartha Lakes-Haliburton agency supporting our local youth. On behalf of the Council, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your dedication to improving the lives of our children," said Mayor Doug Elmslie.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Month highlights the significance of mentoring relationships, which are more important than ever. Since 1980, the Kawartha Lakes-Haliburton agency has been fostering these crucial connections, changing young lives through strong, supportive relationships. Their mentors provide guidance, encouragement, and opportunities, helping youth overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
The mentoring services provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters are grounded in the latest child development research and are designed to build resilience and set children on a path to success in life. By engaging with mentors, youth benefit from positive role models who inspire growth and expand their possibilities.
Join us in celebrating Big Brothers Big Sisters Month and support their continued efforts to make a difference in our community.
